Wanted to buy some Nosler 80 gr BT bullets in .243 this week. Browsing thru all the bullets at our local hunting store there was a great selection. However, the Nosler bullets were $10 more per 100 over the Sierra. And in every case they were more.

So I bought Sierra 85 gr bullets for now. Next might be Hornady. But, there will be no more Nosler bullets for me. After 36 years they can go out of business for all I care.

With the price of raw materials going up, you're going to see all components going up in price.

As far as Nosler going out of business, you better hope all companies in the firearms business stay open, rather than one going down because you don't like the prices your local gun store charges for their products. The end price may have nothing to do at all with the wholesale price of the product, and may have more to do with the markup the end seller is adding.

And Ferraris cost more than Fords; What the maker charges is what he feels his products will command in the market place. They can always come down and make it look good as opposed to raising the price

For 36 years I've used nothing but Sierra and Nosler in my rifles. I tried Speer at one point and wasn't impressed. Never tried Hornady though, so can't say anything.

Two years ago I bought some Nosler 50 gr .224 bullets for the .22-250. The best I could do was 2" groups. The Sierra 52 gr Match easily out shot it with groups under 1/2", and they were cheaper. A call to Nosler got me the worst help I ever had. The Rep kept telling me the bullets weren't loaded correctly and said it was me causing inaccuracy. I tried those bullets with different powders and just couldn't get them to shoot at all.

Lately I've been stating that there are 2 types of buyer, those that buy cheap when the product is plentiful and those that over pay in panic buying because they procrastinated.

Maybe Nosler is looking for that 2nd group.

In 223 match bullets (69, 77, 80) Nosler have been and still are reliably less expensive than Sierra and perform every bit as well through my 2 guns and those of several guys in the same club. Bulk (600 bullet boxes) Hornady other than AMAX tend to be slightly less expensive but I've not found their 68 and 75 to shoot quite as well - still adequate to hold the X ring out to 300.

I've looked at a lot of places and it appears to be local gouging. The Sierra bullets sell for what I can get them anywhere on the net. But Nosler is $7 more in my local store.

Looks like I just go somewhere else for Nosler. And I like to stay local and keep them in business.

I use quite a few Nosler bullets but I get them only at Shooters Pro Shop. They have blems for pretty good prices.

As for accuracy and price for the calibers I load, I find Nosler to have a pretty good price and product. On the other hand, Hornady has yet to shoot as well for me, thus the less expensive price tag. And Sierra shoots well for me and is more expensive than Hornady. You get what you pay for in my opinion.

For hunting loads I will choose Nosler Partitions over the competition every time. Why? Because they have proven to me over 35 years that they work better on big game. Always reliable, accurate and provide both penetration and expansion.

Nosler makes good bullets but they don't shoot or kill better than a number of other bullet brands that are cheaper. I use them but only when they have overruns or blems for sale. Also, compare prices of overruns because sometimes you'll find the price on the Nosler site is as much as you can get them for from other retailers.

For me Hornady shoots better. So I'll save the money.

Nosler left a sour spot with me years ago when they dropped the bullet count from 100 to 50 in the boxes but hardly changed the price. Then they dropped the Solid Base and that was about the end with them for me. THey had several hog wash reasons for doing so, but the end result was so they could supply Federal and others with their bullets for factory ammo. Sierra and Hornady neither one did this.

I have since purchased plenty of bullets with their name on the boxes, but they were from the Pro Shop and were in the over run Sold Bases they put out for commercial loading. I stocked up as they were in some of my favorite weights and calibers.

As for the rest, well I found that Hornady, Sierra and Speer shoot just as good or better in some cases, in the loads I use, so as long as they still keep their prices somewhat decent they will get my business.

I've never had accuracy problems with any Nosler bullet, and when it comes to hunting, the NP is the bullet that ALL others are compared to... AND, it's for a good reason!
