hey guy's
i have been reloading for about 1.5 years and only done loads by the book, by that i mean using the loading maunuals tested bullet , in other words if they used a hornady boat tal of a specific grain i used that bullet

i just ordered some of midway's dogtown bullets , they are soft point 55 grain for 223

i doubt that i will find that bullet being used for a load in a manual

so my quesytion is , is it safe to use the load data for another similar bullet , jacketed soft point 55 grain, starting at the minimum and working up

i hope you guys understand my question, if not i will try to explain better

also on 223 , bullets with otu a cannelure is it ok to put a light crimp with a lee factory crimp die
is a crimp even required

thanks for any help

Yes, use data for a similar weight & shape.

No need to crimp as long as your case neck tension is correct.

It should take 50-70 pounds of force to slip the bullet in the case.

if you wanted to take a collet crimper and just roll the chamfer back against the bullet, that's OK..

but like RC said, neck tension is all you really need..
