Missouri guys...need help on hog hunt

I have an acquaintance that's from east central Missouri. He says there are a LOT of wild hogs around the Wapapello area. Never been there, know nothing about it. I'm maybe 5 1/2 hours away, so it would make a great week-end hunt later this winter when deer season is over.

I understand that a regular hunting license is not necessary. I'd like to bring my .358 WSSM AR or maybe my Savage 99 .300 Sav. He claims it's easy to find places to hunt. Supposedly the DNR keeps track of the better places to go.

Wondering (1) rifle caliber restrictions if any (2) thoughts on odds of success by anybody local or with experience (3) any other do's/don'ts

I went to the state website. It says they discourage hog hunts, but my friend says the personnel at Wapapello are very helpful and want the hogs killed. Dunno.

all help appreciated. Merry Christmas to all
TIA

wild hog hunting being discouraged is not something ive heard of, they are pests and a nuesence.

ive hunted them in Ark and there was no bag limit, no caliber restriction, no seasonal limit, no day/night restriction, no baiting or use of dogs restrictions....

the hogs damage $$$$$$$ worth of crops in a single evening....

I am from the same area. Folks from all over come to Lake Wapapello to hog hunt. I usually see 4 wheelers or horses as the means of getting around, and a lot of folks run Rhodesian Ridgebacks on the hogs. Also, they hunt as much at night as they do the day....not sure why. It reminds me of guys getting together for a coon hunt.

There isn't a caliber restriction in Missouri, but you have to be careful about what you are doing during deer or turkey season - for obvious reasons.

They discourage paid or guided hunts. It was that industry turning the hogs loose that caused the problem.

It is VERY unlikely that you would even see a hog. Only exceptions you are running dogs or hunting over bait at night.
