They are harder then woodpecker lips.

I have never got one to expand on anything less then steel plate.

+1 on current Berry's HP not expanding.

Berry's new hollow points will be the expanding type similar to Speer Gold Dot hollow points (yes, Gold Dots are also plated bullets) and all current Berry's hollow point bullets will be replaced by them - http://www.berrysmfg.com/products-c117-New_Hollow_Points.aspx

However, the retail release of the new HP bullets have been delayed and current run on firearms and components is probably not helping. :(
Our New Hollo Points are Going through process development with a handfull of OEM customers, our target date for release will be late summer to early fall. We'll be offering the hollow points initially in .45, .40 and 9mm and will get it into the full line by the end of the year. The goal is to replace all of our current Hollow Point bullets with our new design starting with the most popular calibers.
Looking forward to range testing them.
