I got a couple hundred foot of paracord for Christmas so I wanna learn how to wrap knives, make keychains, knife lanyards, etc etc. I've looked on YouTube some but a lot seem to be kind of advanced and I am a 100% rookie. Only experience with paracord tip now is for random tasks on camping trips. Always liked, and wanted to learn how to do something cool with the stuff! Are there some practice knots or braids or something that I could start with for practice? Merry Christmas to all and thank you in advance

Try a Google or U-tube search for tying Lanyards, which are generally easy to do. Start from there.

Have fun with your new hobby.

Welcome to the hobby.

I love making paracord stuff (and knotwork in general).

If you're new, start with the basics of knots and ropework before you start doing anything crazy like a fully braided 8 bight turkshead axe handle. You need to know your roots like clove-hitches, square knots, diamond knots (aka Knife-Lanyard-Knot), and 2-4 strand braiding.

A personal favorite book of mine that I still consult is The Ultimate Encyclopedia of Knots and Ropework by Geoffrey Budworth (http://www.amazon.com/Ultimate-Encyclopedia-Knots-Ropework-Step/dp/1844768910). Has all the basics, but goes up to some very advanced ropework. It uses photographs to illustrate the tying methods.

Texan_Scott beat me to it, I've been doing a lot of work with paracord lately and I learned it all from instructables.com. Wonderful site.

I've been making some lanyards using the same braiding tecniques that I have used in the past with plastic coated lace.
I bought a small publication at the local craft store that is somewhat helpful titled "Parachute Cord Project Book".
The Yahoo videos are helpful.
Have Fun!

Sorry to tell you, but there are a lot of "garrison macrame" crafts that can be done with paracord, but nearly none of them are within scope for NFW.

Your best bet for wrapping knife handles (I personally dislike paracord wrapped handles enough to recommend against them) are internet videos like those at instructables.
