Looking for a small long gun safe. I'd like to keep the price low and get the most for my money (who doesn't) After some searching I came across this Provault safe (made in USA by Liberty Safes---it seems specifically for Cabellas) Cost is 329 but shipping would be 150---Ouch! Closest location to me is in West VA, many hours away. I have attached a link below. What do you guys think of this safe for the money?

Not when you tack on shipping.

Agreed! Go to your local lock and safe professional and buy a used safe. Chances are you will get a better safe for less when you tack on that shipping. You can probably buy something like that safe you are looking at from Wally World with $1 shipping.

Check out home depot or lowes... they both sell safes in the price range you are looking.

Most of the gun shops or ranges will also have something. You can even try the local sporting goods stores.
There are numerous safes around with out the shipping!

Check out Walmart. They have ones that size that they stock heavily on for Christmas. After Christmas, I have seen them steeply discounted. A few years back brother bought a 24 gun Cannon for $400 and a friend bought what I believe was a 12 gun Stack-On for $150.

That seems like a good price if you can pick up one similar at the box stores. I wish I would have thought to look there. I just paid $400 for 20+ year old Browning/ProSteel trimline safe that is in mint cond. but not even firelined. Oh well. and a ba ba booey to you.

I have the Lowes Liberty 14 gun safe, got it Black Friday for $299. it is not bad at all and besides bolting it to the floor I bolted it to the 440lb Stack ON 24 gun model sitting next to it. Figure no one is ever going to get the two of them out if I have a breakin. Decent safe and cheap.

I recently picked up the Lowe's version marked Liberty Centurion. Good entry level safe that beats the heck out of stashing firearms in hidey holes.

Drove it home lying down in the back of my Avalanche.

Works as advertised and the flat bars are as good as or better than the fake round bolts others use.

Nothing will keep out a pro, this will stop all honest folks and a good number of the dishonest. Make sure you bolt it down and best if you can position it in a corner that will stop them from easy prying access.

The only problem I have with the safe, and it's going to be the same problem for almost every other safe in the same price range, is that it is not using a UL rated lock.

This feature alone can make a major difference during a very simple amateur attack. These safes not using UL rated locks can be opened very quickly by attacking the lock itself with basic tools. Some of these non rated locks are also easily bypassed without leaving any signs of entry, with details shown on a variety of Youtube videos.

Nothing will keep out a pro,

There are safes that will keep out a pro, but pros aren't usually breaking into gun safes in people's homes.

What we are usually looking at is amateurs, and this is where safe construction is important, if the amateur decides to attack the safe. There are safes that will keep an amateur out for 30 seconds, and safes that will keep an amateur out forever. You have to decide for yourself what you're looking to accomplish.

Personally, I'd avoid the safes that would only last seconds or a few minutes against a moron with basic tools. Even though the odds are against an attack on the safe, the possibility does exist. You're just living with a false sense of security if that ever happens.

Don't forget Tractor Supply if you have them in your area. They often have great deals on safes, and will load it in the truck for you. They often have safe days where they will knock $100 or more off all the safes they have in stock. So be sure to ask about that.

the 12 gun liberty safe is only 213lbs... that's pretty light for a gun safe. are you bolting it down?
