My dad has an M1 carbine that he got when my grandfather passed away. Grandpa bought it at an army surplus store in the mid 90's.

We were looking at it Christmas at my parents' house. The receiver is stamped "NATL ORD". I'm guessing that's National Ordnance?

What's the scoop? Where's it made? Hunk o' junk or decent? Would it be something you could take out and put a lot of rounds through without worrying about it breaking?

Cast receiver with milsurp parts. While I would never buy one, if it works, use it.

This link may help as to National Ordnance. (http://www.m1carbinesinc.com/carbine_NATORD3.HTML) Exactly what Don mentions as to cast receivers with military surplus parts.

Also here is a THR thread dealing with them. (http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=253640)
