Just curious, but wouldnt the proposed ban make the olympic 50m rifles illegal to own?

They have either pistol grips or thumbhole stocks.

from my current understanding of the proposed AWBII....it will not apply to bolt action, lever, pump, or single shot rifles....

LOL - That is too funny. It's great to hear them try to define a sniper rifle and differentiate it from other scoped rifles. Free floated, heavy, fluted barrels, light triggers, titanium firing pins... They suggest adding them to the NFA registry. Too funny.

The other great thing is they equate the distances these "sniper rifles" can shoot to how far things are from the Capitol several times. Not trying to scare anyone, are they? :)

"From the West Front of the Capitol, this range would allow accurate firing as far as the Smithsonian Metro station on the Mall."

I see this was written in 1999, but I'd never seen it before and just had to share some of the hilarity contained within.

The most worrying thing there is that they are showing a L86A1 Light support weapon as a 'Sniper Rifle'.
It's a long barrelled SA80 used for fire support, and now almost unused.

Great that they use something not a sniper weapon, and not available in the USA on the front cover of a document about military sniper weapons available to the public
