It's extremely difficult to sort through the tin foil hat wearing emotional knee jerk reaction nonsense floating around the internent right now.

Would it be possible for the ATF, or the President, to reclassify semi-automatic rifles as NFA weapons requiring registration, tax stamp, etc. by a policy change or Executive Order, using laws already on the books?

From what I understand, an Executive Order has little power if it is not related to a law passed by Congress, but the 1934 NFA includes language like "semi-automatic weapons that can be readily converted to be fully automatic" or somesuch.

Please don't even comment if you don't understand, and can't explain, the actual legal issues behind this :cuss:

Maybe not what your looking for but I will say this :

He who has the power to make the laws, has the legal high ground .
