For those of you that shoot a 308, what do you have?? did you build it or make inprovements to a store bought.

I have a CZ 550 varmit kevlar topped with a Vortex Vipor 4-16x44 and Harris bipod.

My other 308 is a build on a 98 Belgium action, Shilen chrome molly fitted 22" medium weight barrel 10" twist, Dayton Traister adjustable triger, Dakota safety, Cickess recoil pad, Ebony forend, Steel grip cap, everything bead blasted and reblued & set in a factory 98 stock reshaped and topped with a Vortex Vipor 2.5-10x44
Both of these are fun to shoot and very accurate. The CZ is my long range prairie dog gun.

Show me your 308

I have a FAL parts kit built on a DSA receiver. Rings steel out to 400 so it works for me.

December 28, 2012, 08:27 PM
My .308 is a STG58 on an imbel. Lots of fun, even if it wont shoot little tiny groups and the bipod is useless. :)

More than accurate enough for hunting, and it does see use for that.

1st Generation FN SPR. Worked on by: Kelly McMillan (I was one of 12 people selected by Kelly to test and evaluate the preproduction A5 stock), Matt Williams personaly inletted the A5 and installed his tactical bottom metal, and George Gardner of G.A. Precision piller bedded the stock, installed the Badger Ordnance tactical bolt knob, and lightened the trigger to a smooth 3# pull.

I shoot 308 from an American eagle 98/85 Mauser. (Faux American Mauser)

Started off life as a 10FP Choat folder, but the action is all that remains:)
Curently wears a Shilen Select Match 26" barrel, Ken Farrell base, Warne Maxima rings, Leupold VXIII 8.5-25x50LR scope, McRee folder. Shoots tiny little bugholes at 100yrds, and dont do bad out at 330 either:)
168gr Fed GMM at 330yrds

In my .308 family I have:

M1A Springfield Armory NM and an AR10 Armalite tricked out. I also have an older Remington 700 that I trued the action on, lapped the bolt and I think it has a Kreiger barrel. I built the 700 about 17 years ago so I forget.

Anyway, here are my M1A and AR10 rifles.

AR10 accessories:

My AR10 and the M1A together:

The bipods used are cheap $3.00 props.

Don't have an image of the 700 ready to be posted. :(

I also have a M1 Garand .308 barrel waiting to go on a Garand.

as you can tell by handle, .308 is my round of choice even though the 7mm-08 and .22-250 also go with me. my oldest that I carry is an 30 year old Remington 788, love my AR10s and my one M1A Springfield Armory. my next one will be a Ruger #1 if I can find one.My Armalite AR10A2 rifle is one of my favorite hog rifles. I am an old grunt, despise the M16 (.5.56) and any of its current variants, I seen their non stopping action first hand 40 years ago. for an all around cartridge for North America, the .308 is it.

December 28, 2012, 09:14 PM
.308 is my favorite caliber and .308 Win is without a doubt my favorite cartridge. I have the following rifles chambered for .308 Win.

Accuracy International AW
Rem 700
DSA SA58 PARA Carbine
POF P308
M1A Scout Squad

All of the rifles above are stock except the Remington. It has a Krieger barrel, PT&G bolt with Sako extractor, TUBB firing pin and spring, CG trigger, AICS stock, BO base, Leupold Mark 4 8.5-25x50mm scope and Seekins rings. I made the bolt handle and welded it to the bolt and I painted the rifle with GUN-KOTE.

Here's my Remington and AI (bottom) ...

That Kimber LongMaster Classic (bottom) is really, really nice. I'm waiting on a Kimber Montana in .308 Win.

December 28, 2012, 09:26 PM
I have an early Ruger 77 RSI and a FNAR.

December 28, 2012, 09:27 PM
I have 2, a Kimber

And a Winchester EW in a McMillan Edge stock.

They shoot well for lightweight hunting rifles.

December 28, 2012, 09:44 PM
I have a few, this one likely gets the cool award.

Just one...Remington Seven

December 29, 2012, 09:49 AM
M1A Standard Loaded, completely stock except for the Tanner military shooting sling. Eventually want to trick it out some. I have pics of it but I can't remember the password to my Photobucket account.

Most of the rifles on my "To Get" list, including the top two--a FN 17S and a Ruger GSR--are .308s. It is quickly becoming my favorite centerfire rifle cartridge.

Just one...Remington SevenOoogh, nice.

December 29, 2012, 01:51 PM
No perty pictures to post, but after years of owning an '06, .270s, .303s, Mosin, and other assorted rifles I broke down and bought a Ruger American in .308. What a dandy! Since my son also has a .308, I can share ammo with him on the range and reload with him also.

December 29, 2012, 05:21 PM
Benelli R1 in .308. It's taken 1 moose and a bunch of deer.

December 29, 2012, 05:35 PM
Remington 700 classic, only mod was trigger work on the stock trigger; sub moa at 100 yards

As a reloader you should know 3 shots don't count.......just giving ya a hard time....sort of.
I know of many a time that I have got to round 4 or 5 and pulled it.

December 29, 2012, 10:19 PM
Sprinfield M1A standard. The rifle I always wanted.

CZ 550 American Classic. Just worked up a very promising load for the range. No group to show for score yet, but I think it's almost there. Shoots like a champ, and hell on squash.

December 29, 2012, 11:48 PM
FNAR and Rem 700 (ultimately an FN49 and BM59 as well)

December 30, 2012, 12:12 AM
Savage 11/111 Hog Hunter:

Accutrigger is amazing, threaded barrel and decent iron sights. Didn't break the bank and is a much better rifle than I am a shooter.

December 30, 2012, 01:39 AM
MAS 49/56 as modified by the drunk monkeys at CAI.

It works OK.

December 30, 2012, 09:31 AM
I have two My Howa 1500 and now a Saiga 308.

December 30, 2012, 09:57 AM
I have both of these excellent rifles. 243 is my favorite caliber, but 308 is also a whole lot of fun.

Shot a prairie dog on the run with the PTR91 at 400+ yards in front of witnesses. Both are excellent firearms. Hard to say which is my favorite, but I think it is probably the outstanding CZ. With the 10 round magazines it is such a pleasure to shoot. I use Lapua brass and bullets in the CZ, but for the PTR it is milsurp brass and Lapua bullets for accuracy purposes, but even then the Hornady 147 grain FMJ bullets will shoot right at an inch at 100 yards through the PTR91.

It is such a pleasure to get out on the prairie and be able to hit what I am aiming for.

Heavy buffer custom install in the Magpul PRS stock by Mike Six at Hickman Rifles in Colorado Springs, an excellent gunsmith with great patience for putting up with my hairbrained ideas and seeing them through to fruition!:
I so rarely shoot either of these rifles, each is a treat in its own way. I have changed out the scope to the Hensholdt FeroZ24 due to function issues since the photo second above was snapped.

The Bill Springfield paddle mag conversion has made it quite a bit more friendly to shoot, as has his trigger. Nice and clean and predictable:

Amazing how happy these rifles make me. :)

As I sit here I recollect I've had the PTR91 for 10 years now, the CZ for 5 or 6 years. Time slips away so quickly. :( Perhaps the self anointed, "elected," officials will allow my children to inherit these rifles.

December 30, 2012, 11:37 AM
These are old pics with a tiny nikon I had on it until I bought the larger one, but they will do. It is a Mauser action with a surplus machine gun barrel that was cut down. This gun weighs in at 17 pounds without the scope! It is a blast to shoot. It takes a long time to heat this barrel up.

December 30, 2012, 06:37 PM
Some nice 308s here! My only 308 is a CZ. I haven't had an opportunity to pick up the right low profile rings to mount the 3-9x40 Redfield that I have for it, so at the moment it's still naked, but fun to shoot even with irons.

December 30, 2012, 07:07 PM
I like the lines on that rifle^

December 30, 2012, 11:07 PM
Sweet looking rifles!

December 31, 2012, 09:06 AM
I picked up a base model DPMS for a future build in .257AI. For now it runs a 2" 100yd group not really impressive to me.

December 31, 2012, 09:59 AM
Savave 10FP in stock form. Other than wanting a stock change in the future I'm happy.

Marlin XS7 with a weaver 4-10x44, Boyd Stock and Caldwell bipod. Easily one of the least expensive guns I have, yet one of the most accurate.

December 31, 2012, 09:24 PM
I have a few, this one likely gets the cool award.
I am so jealous right now. That is my Make-A-Wish gun.

Don't have a .308 Win yet, but I may sneak down to the LGS and order up a Savage Axis lefty bolt gun in .308Win. That is the only rifle I'm currently hankering for.

I am unable to locate my camera at the moment to showcase an oddball, but I love my Spanish FR-8.

She's short, light, and furious with her recoil. Couldn't ask for a better truck gun.

Savage 10FP 20" in .308, pre-accutrigger model, adjusted the trigger myself and now it's down to around 2lb. 1" groups with surplus ammo @ 100 yards. Simmons ProHunter mildot scope, and probably the only bolt-action I will ever own.

Very nice Rifles everyone! My .308 is "just" a Savage Axis XP.

I've added a camo sling, custom cheek rest, cartridge holder, and UTG bipod so far. I have a one piece weaver base waiting for a centerpoint 4-16x40 scope to replace the Bushnell 3-9x40 that came with it. It shot 1" groups at 100 yards with Federal GMM 168gr SMK BTHP right out of the box, and picked off a clay at 210 yards with 150gr Federal Power Shok. Just started reloading and will be working out a pet load for my baby soon with the same bullet as well as 150 and 165gr sierra gameking's over IMR4895. Can't wait to stretch it out to 300, 400, and hopefully 500 yards (maybe further if I can)

It may be an 'entry level' gun but I couldn't be happier or more impressed for my first centerfire rifle especially for less than $400 total cost ($329 for the rifle plus accessories).

Here is one of my 308 rifles, I built it.
