I just recently picked up an interesting gun and I wanted a little more
information about it. It is a Sauer Texas Marshall single action .44 Magnum
with a 6" barrel. I saw the gun in the used firearms section of one of
my LGS and I became fascinated with it. It is solidly built, the working
parts seem to be in order and it was well balanced. The design is based on
the Colt 1873 Peacemaker or Colt New Frontier I believe.

Do any of you own or have experience one of these? For the price I paid I
think have found the budget single action I've been looking for.

Hawes Firearms Company in California imported the J.P. Sauer & Sohn SAA style handguns in the 1950s and 1960s.

Be aware your gun has no modern safety features like a Ruger transfer bar drop safety.

It should be carried with only 5 rounds and an empty chamber under the hammer.

To easily load that way:
Load one.
Skip one.
Load four.
Fully cock the hammer and lower it on the empty chamber.

This was the very first handgun I ever owned, bought from the LGS in 1978. To this day I regret trading it off. I hope you enjoy yours as much as I did that one.

Those stopped production (or importation anyway) around 1980. They have a rep for being good sturdy guns.

I'm not sure I'd load it up with Buffalo Bore and "Ruger only" loads, but it's a 44 magnum, most factory ammo should be fine.

Thanks for the replies, I'm planning on feeding this a steady diet of .44 Special with
the occasional .44 Magnum round thrown in. I'll leave the main part of my .44 Magnum
shooting to my Raging Bull.
