Winchester 94, 30-30, 1973 vintage. Just your average beater, pick up, saddle scabbard gun. Used on a ranch it's entire life, mostly coyotes, badgers, a few mule deer and a couple elk. I came into it for a very good price and it works very well, accurate as expected, functions with cast and jacketed in all different head stamps.
Problem:
The firing pin hole in the bolt face is worn oblong down. Firing pin strikes low on the primer.
I have been around a few of these guns over the last 60 years and I have never seen this before.
Question:
Can the bolt be bored and bushed to bring everything back to center?

This outfit "thinks" they have a bolt they will sell you for $29.95!

It would be worth checking on.

I now find out that there are two different bolts. The difference in the Post '64 bolts is the length of the ejector.
Question:
Changing the bolt changes the head space, correct?

On a post-64 94?
I seriously doubt it.

I don't think there was much hand fitting going on at Winchester then.

Anyway, with the wide variation in rim thickness in 30-30 ammo from different manufactures, it would be hard to find one with the "correct" headspace in the first place.

I was like you on the firing pin hole wearing out.
I've never heard of it on a Winchester lever-action of any age.

I just can't imagine that happening.
I got to say it was probably made that way.

I guess I'll take it apart and look, haven't had one apart in over 20 years; renewed adventures, I guess.

FYI, I ordered from classic firearms and parts this week and was very happy with the service.
