My wife's birthday is coming up. She has mentioned that she'd like to have her gun at work but cannot carry it on her person and thought she'd like a concealed carry purse. I looked at the offings and am considering one made by Gun-tot'n-mamas. It's called the Classic Boston (for your viewing pleasure, guntotenmamas.com) Does anyone here have any knowledge, first hand or
otherwise, about this product? My wife's gun is a j-frame S&W, which this purse is advertised to accommodate.

cd,

I don't know much about women's purses but another good website offering concealed gear for women is www.theconcealmentshop.com in Texas. I have bought a number of their offerings and they work well.

best wishes- oldandslow

First of all, I don't own a pair of boots which would go with any of their colors.

I think the classic boston is a good looking purse myself, but I do not like it as a concealed carry purse.

More importantly, your wife would have to unzip the zipper on the inside of the bag to get to her gun. Seems a bit awkward.

Finally, I don't like that the holster appears to be simply floating on a large piece of velcro. Seems moderate motion might make it work loose.

Kind of expensive, but then quality usually is.

This site is also pretty common for purse carry for women.

In the past when teaching self defense classes, I have told women it is ALWAYS best to carry you firearm attached to you. I realize for women that creates style issues and that equals probably at least 3 different holsters or more (min. Bra, ITW and Pocket or thigh?). A purse is not a good choice because women tend to leave them, even if close by, so access by others (children incl.) is possible. The other consideration is theft by a purse thief. On your person under your constant control is optimal. Good Luck and congratulations to her for taking charge of her safety.

I recommend on the body carry to my wife and all my female firearm students. Because of limited areas on the body carry is limited to small firearms, typically 38spl and under. Purse firearms allow larger weapons to be carried. In the event of a purse snatch or inaccess to the firearm in it, a small caliber on the body weapon works well in a pinch.
