Have any of you seen or looked at the new assault weapons bill to see if the M1 carbine falls under the new ban "if passed"?

There is no "new assault weapons" bill.

There are several proposed bills in waiting, but nothing can be acted or voted on until congress comes back from the holidays.

Here is the bill most likely to be introduced:

Wow I just read that; what I read basically says any semi auto that can accept a detachable magazine is on the ban list. Am I wrong?

The M-1 Carbine will almost certainly be classified as one of those eeeeevil assault weapons, along with the AR-15s, AK-47 variants, SKS, Ruger Mini-14s and 30s, M1As, and any other self-stuffer that can use a detachable magazine.

Diane Feinstein has a bill she will propose and as it is her bill does include the M-1 carbine. Whether it survives the political hack job that will happen as the bill is debated.....no one can say right now.

Thanks for the info; did you actually see the m1 carbine listed? Or is it an assumption based of its features? And I'm confused is the bill read in a way that says any semi auto with a detachable magazine is an assault rifle or does it say an semi auto with a detach magazine and (1) feature be ause in that case wouldn't the m1 carbine be excerpt given it has no assault features only a detachable magazine

If the M1 carbine is on the ban list than that mean any semi auto is (am I correct on this) meaning the only semi auto that will be legal would be like and m1 garand

Frankenstein's web site http://www.feinstein.senate.gov/public/index.cfm/press-releases?ID=28d0c499-28ec-42a7-902d-ebf318d46d02 merely gives a summary of the bill and only states:

Stops the sale, transfer, importation and manufacturing of more than 100 specifically-named firearms as well as certain semiautomatic rifles, handguns and shotguns that can accept a detachable magazine and semiautomatic rifles and handguns with a fixed magazine that can accept more than 10 rounds.

The NRA-ILA website http://www.nraila.org/legislation/federal-legislation/2012/feinstein-goes-for-broke-with-new-gun-ban-bill.aspx claims the 100 specifically-named firearms includes the M1 Carbine;

Expands the definition of "assault weapon" by including:

Three very popular rifles: The M1 Carbine (introduced in 1944 and for many years sold by the federal government to individuals involved in marksmanship competition), a model of the Ruger Mini-14, and most or all models of the SKS.

I'm a long-time NRA member but know not to take their often breathlessly OMG!!! rhetoric as fact. Methinks we will have to wait until the Malevolent Ms. Feinstein actually introduces her bill to know what she wants to ban. I know that doesn't answer the OP's question, but I don't think anyone outside of Feinsteins's staff knows the answer at this time.

She WANTS to ban literally everything. But yes, I can't see her leaving it off the list.

Pretty much what I read from the descriptions they talk about, it would ban nearly any semi-auto pistol as well.

We had to notice the left's hatred of the famed M-1 Carbine when Hillary and her crew banned the importation of the South Korean Carbines last year, claiming they'd be used by drug gangs. Since 9mm pistols are a lot cheaper to feed than a M-1 Carbine, frankly, I think the drug gangs would still prefer to sit around and "shine their nine", but then again, I don't think like liberals do.

The '94 AWB did not include the M1 carbine or Ruger Mini-14 because they didn't have pistol grips. Any new proposal will reduce the number of allowable features to basically ban all semi-auto rifles with detachable magazine. Also Feinstein said the definition of fixed magazine will be stricter to prevent the California bullet button.

I'm sure the M-1 Garand will fit the list. Shouldn't have to look very hard for even ONE military feature. Ghost ring sight, bayonet mount, whatever.

Otherwise I'd say we need to get ours that are still in Korea returned to us NOW!

The M1 Garand does not have a detachable magazine. Therefore unless it was specifically listed it would be exempt from the proposed legislation (as written).

My opinion is that Fienstiens proposal is all smoke and mirrors. It's obviously so ridiculous it won't pass w/ anyone pro-gun. After it gets shot down, she'll slip in the real (2nd) proposal that'll probably be just a ban on high capacity mags, and certain semi autos (AR's, AK's and anything that looks military style)... And this will look Sooooo good compared to her first proposal, people will swallow it hook, line and sinker!!!
This is just my opinion tho...

People will. Doesn't mean Congress will.

I noticed an exemption for "antiques", might include your carbine or my C&R sks. As others have said, nobody knows until we see it in print. From what I've read, the evil Ruger 10/22 could also be banned.
