This is not what I would consider a petition but a statement that in my opinion would do more harm than good at this point. At the moment nothing has passed anywhere and the last thing we need to do is look like a bunch of kooks who think they are above the law. They want more "ammunition" to use against us - don't give it to them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not signing that. That's just a bad idea. Sorry but it's like giving the ATF a list of violators ahead of time. I've got my fifty gallon drums and PVC pipes. What I chose to do with them, is my business alone.

If you read the "How this works" part of the site it says -
We created We the People because we want to hear from you. If a petition gets enough support, White House staff will review it, ensure it’s sent to the appropriate policy experts, and issue an official response.

The problem with all these various petitions on the same issue is that they become lost in the crowd noise. Perhaps having multiple petitions saying "Don't change national firearms law or policy" are a good thing?

I would suggest using the Contact Congress website also and using their letter engine to send emails to your specific elected reps.

Since discovering this petition site a few days ago (thank you THR for this), I've taken the time to peruse the many petitions there.

Many of them are anything BUT "petitions". Many of them are petitions that have nothing to do with the federal government or the legislative branch in particular. And many are just out right stupid.

Some are pretty good. And one in particular made my day ("Deport everyone who signed a petition to withdraw their state from the United States of America.")

While I applaud the sentiment of the statement for the link provided by the OP, this is not a "petition" at all.

Perhaps these kinds of things are part of the reasons why the site just increased the number of signatures required for a response on January 15th from 25,000 in a 30 day period to 100,000 in a 30 day period. Check it out...it's on their Terms of Participation page.

Supposedly it only affects petitions from that date forward and not the existing ones.
