P95 Double Action Broken

EDIT Update: This seems solved by spraying breakfree into the trigger bar, go figure.

Hi Guys, I picked up my P95 to dryfire it and realized that the double action pull wasn't working. If i pulled the trigger back, it would just click, as if the safety was on. If I pull the hammer back it seems to work in SA mode. I took the slide off and tried pushing back on the hammer a little bit with my thumb... there is some double action pull but it doesnt seem right. Any ideas, short of sending it to ruger? I'm pretty handy.

Thanks

Take the grips off and check the trigger bar #56 and trigger bar spring #42.

These P95 DC parts may not look exactly like your gun, but they all have a trigger bar & spring of some sort doing the work.

Ok, I'm familiar with those parts from my research buying the gun. I'll give that a shot when I go home. While I've got you here, RCModel... I've got a crappy promag that jams on the last round. The follower slide stop shape is obviously wonky. Do you think buying ruger followers and springs would alleviate this?

Maybe.

If the guide ribs and internals of the Promag bady are exactly the same location as a Ruger mag.

One cheap way to find out would be to take the follower & spring out of a Ruger mag, if you have one, and see it it will work in the Pro-Mag body?

If you don't have a Ruger mag to try?
Spend the money for the parts on a complete Ruger P95 mag and be done with it.

UPDATE:

Hi, I just took another look at the gun and isolated the problem. The safety isn't disengaging when it should. I see now that if I have the hammer down and just thumb it back SLIGHTLY, i hear a click and the the trigger bar (part 56) goes up into the safety groove in the slide. If I dont thumb the hammer back slightly the safety seems to stay engaged. Any ideas?

What if you cock it, then use the decocker to decock it and let the hammer rebound where it is supposed to be resting?

Does it work then??

If it does, thats the way it is supposed to work.

Hi rc... if I pull the hammer fully back then decock it it, then lift up the thumb safety, DA will not work. If I just slightly nudge the hammer back with my thumb, the trigger bar pops right up into the slide and I can pull DA normally. Yes, I've tried this with a magazine in and out the gun and numerous times takken the slide off.

I can't help with your DA issue, but I have some experience with putting Ruger followers into Promags for my P95. The Ruger follower is just a tad too fat on the top, so it won't go all the way up. I replaced two followers, on one I thinned the follower so it would go all the way up and tested it. Everything fed perfect and I've had many many magfulls of ammo though that magazine now. The other one I didn't slim, it rests lower but the last round still feeds and the slide locks back afterwords. I didn't bother to replace the springs in either.

Ruger followers are cheap.

Heheh too bad because I love my p95 like a Sig 226 with a trigger job. I'll definitely order some followers anyway, just to have some on hand.

if I pull the hammer fully back then decock it it, then lift up the thumb safety, DA will not work.

So you engage the hammer to its most rear position, decock it, disengage the safety and the double action will not work, I'm I understanding that right?

If I just slightly nudge the hammer back with my thumb, the trigger bar pops right up into the slide and I can pull DA normally.

Maybe the trigger bar and spring are out of spec? Maybe the hammer comes to far forward in and doesn't let the trigger bar come all the way up?

I know answering question with questions :o, but I'm trying to get a fell for the situation,

Ah ha! Here's a video someone made of my exact problem... although with a P90.

so far I'm thinking I'm going to detail strip the gun and make sure the trigger bar and trigger spring are clean.

Ahhh! Success! Just a dump of breakfree and it cleaned right up. Double Action is normal now.
Sorry for the drama, I didn't have a chance to try cleaning it until now. Oh well, it's good info for posterity.
