Yep, there it was......Panic week!!!!!
I was on Gun Broker browsing, lusting, and dreaming.

When my wife said "Oh, just buy it already"

:what:WHAT!? :what:
Did she really say that?:confused::confused:

So, yes I panicked and my new Pedersoli Big 50 is finally here.

I've been watching Sharps 50-90's sell for almost a year, bid on a few that went out of my price range. But this one, while it really stretched my budget, (5$ more and I was bowing out) I wound up buying, in a panic. And now I'm trilled, I really think i got a good deal. The online pics didn't do it justice, the wood is a lot darker, and the blue is deeeeep.

So now here I sit with my new tactical rifle, long range sights, 33" full octagon barrel, double set triggers, everything I want except........AMMO!!!!:uhoh:

And trust me 50-90 is harder to find than 223, and even more expensive!!!;)

Congratulations on getting a rifle you obviously have wanted for a long, long time. You be real nice to that wife too! :)

Enjoy the rifle as I know you will. There is just something special about rifles like that.

Neat rifle but i wouldn't be too concerned with this gun being banned.

Thanks for all the positive feedback.:):)

Hokkmike, it weighs just over 13lbs but its all barrel. Makes it kind of awkward.

Fun! There are days I regret selling my 40-65 Pedersoli Sharps. With FFg and a Lyman cast bullet of 20-1 alloy it was a shooter. Used Fed magnum primers, one fiber wad, one grease wad, moderate compression on the load. I used to love to stink out other people on the firing line with that pall of black powder smoke drifting down the line!

Recoil on my rifle was pretty stout. I can only imagine the 50-90. I shot a 45-90 once, that was more than I could bear.

Beautiful rifle, Congrats, and thanks for the pics!

50-90 :eek: ... even at 13lbs that makes my shoulder ache just thinking about firing it.

Well, I wish I comment on recoil......but I'm still waiting on ammo.:banghead::cuss:

I really don't expect it to be to bad, the weight has to soak up a lot, and it is black powder, more push and less punch in my limited experience. Not to mention I'm not real recoil sensitive. In Billy Dixon's book he said he kept 10 buffalo skinners busy cleaning, killing around 75 buff's a day!!!! That means he was shooting at least 75 rounds of this 50-90 a day. That's what they mean when they say "Back when men were men!"

I'm pretty green, this is the first Sharps I've ever held and I've never even seen a 50-90 round or shot a gun with a set trigger. Needless to say I'm in new territory.

I am not very recoil sensitive either, but with that pup I would use a pad for, at least, the first shot. Better safe, y'know ... ;)

You are going to have SO much fun with your new rifle!

Waiting on ammo? Heck you'd be wise to invest in even a modest BP reloading setup. I have been lusting after a Shiloh LRE in 45-70 or 45 2/78 for years. Congrats on the fine looking Buff thumper.

Actually, I do plan on reloading but the price of brass is just slightly less than some of the older bullets I have seen on Gun Broker. So I figured I would just buy some of them, at least to start with, and use the brass later. My dad has a single stage setup from his bench rifle days in the 80's. With a little time and help from him I'll be rolling my own before to long.

I understand the 50-90 can also shoot 50-100 and 50-110, their just lower bullet weights with higher powder charges. I have also been told there are some safe smokeless loads for the 50-90, but I'll have to look in to that more with the help a experienced reloader. Something just doesn't feel right about shooting smokeless in it anyway, especially when "Black Powder Only" is stamped on the underside of the barrel.

PS
If you want to see crazy ammo prices check out 50-110 on GB, it's around $600-700 a box.:what::what::what:

Nice! I've got the fever for a fifty as well but I'm leaning towards an assault rifle of some sort. Like a Uberti 1876 .50-95. ;)
