Hi, Guys
Finally, I did get the 870 Express. I lost few Wingmasters on Summitgunbroker, then a M-14 called me, later one a FAL project come to life and ended up buying BassPro gift cards when doing groceries. Christmas come up with a 870 Express.
Today, my son and I we did clean some guns and decided to head to the range.
So, to make the long story short, trap was the main idea.
He shot the first round, bird down and the barrel fall on the floor (our fault, the mag nut was lose when oiled). What a shame. We needed some help to re-assembly the bolt and the fore grip.
So, after that on the spot again. He missed a few and Dad turn come up.
I've never shot trap before, saw do it many times, even took Martin to local club. Nevertheless not a clue.
What a funny experience I had the 870 express (28"), run flawlessly through the 50 cartridges along with Beretta, Benelli and other semi brands (I'm not comparing). I must confess pistol and rifle shooting was my thing since I was 7 year old. But, trap was challenging, exiting, and my old eyes work ok.
My score was 17 out of 25 birds, enough to want to go back next weekend.

Thank you all, thanks to your advice, I bought the 870 Express in 28", my best wishes for 2013.

Regards,
Henry

Thanks, that was what the range officer told me. He noded his head, when the barrel went down. At the end we laugh together.I thought that he said it to all the newbies.
Oh I've forgot won 5 bucks bet with my son.

Just dusted off my 870 Express 28" as well yesterday. I was cutting brush for a while then took a break to shoot a box of target loads. Sadly no trap thrower out in the sticks, but I did manage to bring along a bag of tin cans. I decorated a small tree with cans on just about branch and went to work sending them flying. Not a single malfunction BTW.

An exceptionally fun half hour!

17/25 isn't at all bad for a first time trap score! great job.

Thanks GS
I'm off next Friday so let see how I do next time. What I realized as soon I speed up for over confidence, you missed.
As the RO said follow through. In addition to that he explain that those shotguns (870) tend to shot a litle high, sugesting me to trust the pellets patern with a lower follow.

Heck I've been shooting for 6 years and have worked up to 22 or 23 out of 25 but can drop to 17 on an off day. I started out with a Rem 870 Wingmaster and am now shooting a SKB o/u.
My daughter shoots an older 870 Express I have tweaked for her and can shoot in the 20's with it.
Trap is fun, relativley inexpensive and addictive. A beautiful day a couple boxes of shells and a group of friends is a good time.
