I bought a Novak Tritium front sight for a colt defender, and it was supposed to fit in the dovetail already on the slide. Well the thing went in (it was a little tight), but it does not glow. Is it possible to break these things? Can they put new tritium in it at Novak?

Send it back to whomever you bought it from. Yes, you can break them. If you broke it, send it to Tool Tech. They do the tritium work for Trijicon and a lot of other specialty makers like Novak and Heinie.

Is it possible to break these things? You betcha!

Thats why when a new sight "Is a little tight" you fit the sight to the dovetail with a file or stone instead of just beating it in kicking & screaming.

How do you install it without breaking it? I mean I dont want to go through this every time.

I did file it! And there was very little kicking and screaming! I probably broke the thing, I will just have to contact midway USA, then Novak and see what they will do.

Well the "correct" way proscribed by the sight manufactures is to use a sight pusher.

But I have done it for years without breaking one using proper pre-fitting, grease in the dovetail to prevent galling, and tapping it in with a nylon or brass punch and small hammer.

Here is a thread that goes into more detail:

Probably the best way is to send the slide to Novak and let them break it!
They got more!
