What's up with 308 brass availability?

What's up with 308 brass availability? I remember the shortages back in 2009, but then there was a large competing military order. Are the panic buyers really buying up millions of 308 brass? Just wondering if someone out there knows more than me...

Take a look at brassmanbrass.com and gibrass.com. Both appear to have the stuff in stock.

I have been slowly adding once fired brass to my "ahead" pile for years. Now I have almost 10K ahead of the stuff I use and reload over presently. At the present I see it available but the prices are more than I am willing to pay. I bet it goes down in price within 6 months or so when nobody is willing to spend more than it is worth by that point.:scrutiny:

I bought it all :D Na there is plenty around if you know where to look, just picked up another hundred once fired for next to nothing at the local range, along with some 270 WSM and 7mm-08.

Just like 2008-2009 the panic buy is on, and the scarcity is hitting the shelves again.
I for one dont really get the panic buy on reloading components but oh well, glad I stocked up on primers and powder in bulk last summer. Hopefully things will calm down in a couple of months but that is wishful thinking.

Check scrap metal yards near large military bases. Someone told me they are not supposed to make it available to the public anymore but I have several drums. Up till a decade ago could get .308 consistently. Now its mostly .223 with switch to the SAW. I still see the occasional drum but can't justify buying anymore. Actually bought two drums of end of belt unfired blanks just to get the links then sold the blanks back to scrap yard. Ol lady still asks me why I feel the need to keep several 55 gallon drums of brass years down the road. Especially the drum of .30 cal links have to oil down every few years to keep from rusting. Women just don't think right.

Manufactures make components based on average demand. We have a panic and.it runs the shelves. Distributors first priority is to consistent bulk buyers such as commercial reloaders and small specialty ammo companies. They can't short their regular large customers. So shelves will dry up for now, manufactures will tool up for the surge, soon as shelves stock then stop having runs, price will stabilize again at about two bucks per thousand more. Right now my suppliers have anything I need at same prices as last month. My co-op buys enough to keep our supplier from price gouging or snorting our quotas. Sooner everyone calls down, sooner price and stock will stabilize.

The military is selling brass all the time. There are several lots of .308 and 5.56 on auction at this very minute.

Medalguy- you are right. I see them online all the time.
Closest base to me is 2 hrs away and they sell online. But either scrap guys or a bunch of buddies go to get her for it. Because me being a single buy can never touch it for a decent price.

Agree with many here, not sure what the whole panic is about, but shelves here in Texas are empty. Cabelas, Walmart and local sporting goods stores, are having trouble keeping ammo in stock. They have lines in the early morning, waiting for them to open, to purchase ar's and ammo. .223 has gone to over a dollar a round here, because people are willing to pay that much for it.
