Okay, so I got this today, Traded an OLY arms PPFT for it. The weapon functions well. Its just beat up. It looks like it was left in the back of a pick up an bounced around for a few months :)... Either way ... here it is... My plan is to Sand and Duracoat all of the steel parts... I'm also going to refinish the stock into a Deep blood red. (i have no other way of decribing it...)...

Anyone have any experience with this?

Anyone have any answers to the following questions...

If I duracoat it will I loose the markings on the receiver? or will the coating fill in and be clear and legible?

Can you duracoat the inside of the receiver?

Can you duracoat the mags?

Can I duracoat basically EVERYTHING with the exception of the inside of the barrel and chamber? IE trigger group, springs, recoil spring... gas piston, ect?

The duracoat should not fill in any serial numbers or markings as long as you don't glob it on there. I would not try to Duracoat ANY of the internals. The assorted springs, trigger group, piston, bolt, or the inside of the receiver don't need to be coated. I like Duracoat myself, but I wouldn't want to chance it on any of those parts. The mags should be good to go.

Duracoat is somewhat flexible, but there is no way that I would trust it to stick to a spring. It might look good before you shot the rifle, but after the first few shots you would probably have all kinds of duracoat flakes in the inner works. My personal opinion is that if the gun functions fine, leave it alone. I apply the duracoat to exterior surfaces only.

I use high heat engine enamel with great results, only $6 a can at your local auto parts store. Here's my work.

Edit: Thats cobwebs on the middle one, been in storage for a while :)

Buck, that looks like a good cheap alternative...

But there's minor scratches on the finish of some of those guns...

From what I understand that's not too common with a dura coat??

I'm willing to spend the bucks for a brush and compressor because I have all kinds of aplications for it at the moment.

Ok, Im going to pull out of the guts out of the reciever then before I do this... I do plan to duracoat the inside walls of the receiver.. Thats fine right? as long as I pull the trigger out and whatnot... Is it okat the coat the bolt carrier? I think ill leave the piston stainless.

Leave the piston and guts, the inside of the receiver is fine. From what I've seen the professionally done duracoat holds well but I've seen a few botch jobs.

as far as your stock goes, i just refinished mine, be sure to use a good solvent to rid the clear coat on the rear skeleton stock, it's on there thick.

From my personal experiences I would not Duracoat anything on the inside of your gun. I had one pistol done that way and you can actually watch the slide cycle it moves so slow. YMMV

The druacoating is the last thing that needs to get done on this project. Ive refinished the stock, Got an upgraded trigger and prepped the gun for paint. Just waiting for the dura coat to get here in the mail... Ill post pics when its done! :)

Have you shot the gun with the stock trigger at all? I just got my PSL back from repairs and it shot better than I could have ever imagined stock. Either way I can't wait to see what you did to it.
