I would be very interested in a THR shoot! If I can find out where the
heck I am ( see location note :D )
I've never been to the Pontiac Lake range but I'm sure my father-in-law
and I could figure out how to get there. April or May sounds good, the
weather should be better by then, but then again, this the great state of
Michigan. You have got to love a state that has had a major snow storm
on the first day of spring.

rock on, guys.. tell your friends!
Pontiac lake Rec area is off of M59 ( Hall Road) in Waterford. near Elizabeth Lake Road, IIRC. on, say, April 1st, we'll hopefully have enough people to make it worth while, and I'll post a poll to decide what day, exactly, and I'll post directions.
Sound good?

Can the Grand Rapids area people come too?
Ya gotta remember, to us on the west side of the state "Detroit area" just means anything east of Lansing and south of Flint. I'd be interested in meeting up with some fellow THR members in the state though.

nah. I'm not saying that the shoot will be on 4-1, I'm saying I'll post a poll on 4-1 to determine what day, and possibly, where, if anyone has any other suggestions.

Depending on my school workload I might be able to make it with a friend or two.

How does Sunday, April 25th sound? I'll give them a call to verify what time they open. I think it's 11am. also, I figure I should call to see if I can reserve time or something. I think the range has about 20-25 lanes total (25, 50, and 100yds), plus the skeet/sporting clays (I'm not sure exactly, I just know it has something to do with clay pigeons and shotguns. :-P ), archery range, and knife/tomahawk range.
and yes, Gigabuist, Grand Rapids people, and indeed anyone who can make it out will be more than welcome.

Please post prices to shoot and what kind of ammo they will allow -when you find out. I am looking at least a 2hr plus drive if it works out for me.

well, I'll get more specifics, but I can tell you that it's $4.00 a day, and they had no problems with the steel cased, steel core, light AP ammo I was using in my 91/30. I'll check on maximum caliber, but I'm assuming up to .50BMG. I'll check, though.

There is some fed. land east of Flint in Lapeer where you can shoot for free, it's unsupervised. The good thing is you can shoot whatever gun/ammo you want but there aren't any benches or target holders.

I can't see any reason not to. Island Lake off I-96 and Kensington road is an outstanding range. Skeet/Trap/5 station as well as 25, 50, and 100 yd target range. 50 lanes IIRC.
Oleg has pics of Island Lake on his web page.
The range is in danger of being shut down. I plan on being at the meeting on April 1st to show support for Island Lake.

Sounds like a grand idea.
Seems like we may have some more inductees for the Detroit Area Chapter of the Terre Haute Torque & Recoil Society. :D
Bring your mountain bikes and a model rocket or two. And who's gonna bring the food for the BBQ afterwards? :p

Sounds good.
Pontiac Lake is single shot only, I do believe, so bring lots of 1 round mags.:fire:

Pontiac lake is 6 rounds only. this rule, in my experience, is loosely inforced. I had no problems with running through 15 rounders in my Beretta.

Great.
At one time it was single shot(20 yrs). I was not so politly asked to leave after shooting a revolver fully loaded. Have not been back since.
Hummmm!!!! Maybe it's time I made a return visit.

yup. I went to Bald Mountain once. *once*. never again. they have the one round at a time rule. and the three seconds between shots rule, too.
I think Pontiac Lakes might have the three second rule, but I was shooting my Mosins, so it was taking that long, anyway, more or less. the last time I was there, I was waiting about a second between shots with my pistols, and the ROs paid no mind. I suppose it would have been a problem if I wasn't on paper or something. there were some guys there that asked if they could doubletap, and they were allowed to do so. granted, my buddy and I and the other two guys on the range were the only ones there. of course, it was -5 out, too. :neener: perfect weather for a Russian rifle.

Island Lake is still posted single shot only, but they just require a few seconds between instead.
Let me know when and I'll try to drive up. Spent today working the gun show in Saline and then at a camp dinner at Chief Okemos. Long day.

Barbara is correct. I asked the RO's at Island lake last year. It is 6 rounds. The only thing I don't single load is my .22 semi auto rifle(Marlin tube fed. PITA to single load) so a single load only rule doesn't bother me all that much when shooting a rifle or SG.
Saturday April 24 is the only day that I can't make it. Sunday April 25th would be perfect.
If anyone is interested, the Wolverine custom knife show is at Novi Expo Center that weekend too.

ok. so, the date will be April 25th (a sunday). seems we've got three good contenders for a venue, if Island Lakes can deal with more that one round at a time. (that annoys the hell out of me.)
I'm going to start a new thread with a poll, to decide on venue.

Beretta, The only thing I would say is to make the event in the early
afternoon. I go to Church on Sunday and would be out by noon, give or
take. Then it would take me about an hour to get to Pontiac or Flint
or anyplace else.
Thanks
