Who Do You Boycott?

Do you actually boycott places and who do you boycott? Does it have an effect? Has any company actually gone out of business because of it? When you boycott them do you tell them why? I went into Dick's yesterday and handed them my customer royalty card at the service desk last week and they said I wasn't the first to do it.

Turned in my Score Card and returned 4 item purchased for Chritmas presents also contacted Lower Than Dirt and requested my name be remove from their mailing list......Wal-mart may be next.......Target sounds better to me anyway......and Bank Of America too.

Emailed Dick 2 weeks ago and let them know that I'm taking my business somewhere else.

January 7, 2013, 08:30 AM
Bank of America and Levi's.

January 7, 2013, 08:39 AM
Cabelas- Never give them CC info.......

PayEvil- Fruits of the devil, I say.

Both for the same reason : Improper use of my CC info, in the case of PayBastard- to the tune of thousands of dollars. For cabelas, constant recurring non-authorized charges that finally required me to cancel and re-issue the card.

FedTactical : Look 'em up. You'll know why.

PSA : More like PITA, if you ask me.

Does it bother any of them ? Dunno. Honestly, dont care. "I" spend a lot of money on my hobby. They get nary a bent nickel of it. That is their loss. I tell all of my friends and hobby cohorts the stories about all of these companies. Some listen, some listen and shop anyway. More than one of them has gotten burned same as me, and all the other ones listen from now on, lol.........

All I can really hope is that one day I get the chance to return their CUSTOMER SERVICE to their employees....... ( IE, george carlin and customer service- go youtube it)

I would steer away from the Ebay/PayPal empire if there were another way to accomplish what they can accomplish. I'm still looking for another way to get as much exposure for an item I want to sell or as much access to things I might want to buy. There isn't one, and that's why they can do what they do in terms of fees and restrictions. Same with Google.

Noble cause aside, we have to be rational in the way we exhibit our objections. Boycotts do more to harm the people who propose and support them then they do to the boycotted. If in your area Walmart has everybody beaten on most food prices, why spend more for groceries than you have to because Walmart has a gun sales policy you don't like? OK, don't buy a gun there. But you're not hurting them by going to Grocery Chain X and spending 10-15% more for the foods you buy. You're hurting yourself.

Besides, all it takes is for word of the "gun community" staging a boycott for the antis to show up in numbers and offset the loss. And we do the same when the antis boycott. Pointless.

January 7, 2013, 09:42 AM
I boycott a LGS mainly because he loves to throw around the "N" word and uses horrible scare tactics on new customers, then takes advantage of their lack of knowledge. I brought a great Marine friend in who was black( not that it should EVER matter), and when I went in the next day he asked why I hung around him...and used the word. Needless to say there was some heavy screaming. I normally do not get mad over anything, well I made an exception. I understand it's his store, his rules, but seriously...

I also boycott Bank of America due to their anti stand. There is also a local restaurant that bans firearms, so my family boycotts them. They have a sign that says protected by love and honesty, no weapons allowed. I need to go get a picture of the sign...

January 7, 2013, 09:43 AM
I drove right by Cheaper than Dirt on saturday and I always stop in there. Not sure of their 2A stance, but the way they handled themselves right after Newtown left a bitter taste in my mouth. It seemed very knee jerk, and all it did was give the antis something to point to and say "even gun sellers are re thinking their view on guns" and we sure as hell don't need that. I'll never go back, and I'll be sending a stop email request. Good riddence, their prices sucked anyway.

January 7, 2013, 09:50 AM
I boycott who ever rubs me or mine wrong...................

January 7, 2013, 09:54 AM
I boycott the Waffle House near me....the food is terrible there. I've boycotted it for 6 years and they are still in business. I don't understand why my lack of patronage hasn't shut them down.

As for Dick's? I don't 'not shop' at any of their 4 stores around me because of their policies, it's because they don't sell much that I want to buy.

January 7, 2013, 10:06 AM
Bank of America. A more un-American bank you will not find. Their anti-Second Amendment stance is well-documented elsewhere.

Dick's will never see another dollar from me.

I've never shopped at Cheaper Than Dirt due to their outrageous prices, but now I'm telling everyone else not to shop there.

I boycott Dominos Pizza and Chick Fil A. Both seem to be doing well without me.

January 7, 2013, 10:33 AM
Pete's Coffee and California Pizza Kitchen are no carry where I live so I don't go there. Seem to be doing fine.

January 7, 2013, 10:48 AM
So who do I boycott well, let's see: Dicks, CTD, NBC and the list keeps growing. BTW what's the story on BOA. I don't like ebay or PayPal so they are easy ones to boycott. I'm sure the list will grow before this mess is over.

January 7, 2013, 10:59 AM
Why are we boycotting Dick's again? I have been there as they have an endless supply of CCI standard velocity and CCI Minimags, nowhere else in my area of North Jersey (union county) can I find consistent ammo availability. At most LGS I look at a couple scraps of this odd-and-end. Dick's always has a case.

I could switch to shopping online, I haven't tried yet, but as I understand I can't economically get 22LR without the price per round being ludicrous after shipping charges are included? I don't have enough savings to buy a 300 dollar case at once for the free shipping at various vendors, I buy ammo as needed and am saving for a shotgun and 22 squirrel hunting gun (can't be semi-auto where I plan to hunt in PA)... I "allocate" 75 bucks a month to spend on my hobby and am pretty strict with the budget.

The list grows by the day.

January 7, 2013, 11:07 AM
My kids hate it that we can't have pizza hut any more because of the sign on their door.

January 7, 2013, 12:08 PM
I'll continue ordering from CTD because I can get .22 ammo by the case for about a dollar less per bulk pack than Walmart.

Same for Dick's, better than buying at Walmart. I hate Walmart with a deep-seated passion that can't be supplanted by whatever goofiness is going on with Dick's or CTD.

Target sounds better to me anyway
If you're conservative and want a better place to spend your money, Target ain't it.

I refused to buy Levi's jeans for a long time and got a really stupid response from the email I sent them. Can't find any now that fit better. So I just give more to the NRA.

IMHO, shooters are WAAAAAY too quick and willing to burn their own at the stake.

Toys"R"Us- What ticks me off is my wife won't boycott them because of their good prices but then complains every time she goes in there.
Buffalo Wild Wings
Sara Lee foods
Any establishment that has a gun buster sign on their door.

January 7, 2013, 06:00 PM
Dick's lost my business :barf:

January 7, 2013, 06:02 PM
I don't really boycott anybody. There are some places that I refuse to shop for one reason or another. Eventually some of them go out of business because apparently enough other people feel the same way about them as I do.

January 7, 2013, 06:02 PM
Why are you boycotting cheaper than dirt?

January 8, 2013, 01:01 AM
For the longest time I thought I was crazy alone on PayEvil..........

Thx, guyz !

I don't boycott. I choose not to do business with an entity based on price. CTD is anything but cheap so I don't order from them. I now think twice before I go into a Dick's. I always hated that they were the ones that decided when I wanted to use my rewards points. I barely do any business with the most convenient LGS. Their prices are always high on firearms and hunting gear.

The whole PayPal thing boggles me. I find no better way to stick it to them then by using their service for something that "isn't allowed."

Why are you boycotting cheaper than dirt?

After the school shooting, they immediately pulled all of their firearms from their site. They also either sold out of or pulled all the high-cap mags off their site, only to relist them later for about 50% higher prices. They made a statement at the time that was something to the effect of "We are committed to the 2A but are re-evaluating our policies currently"...

That said, I used to use CTD for a lot of my purchases because their shipping to me here in TX is so damn fast and while their prices aren't the best, they aren't criminal either.

For 22lr, I go to Killough Shooting Sports or Champion Shooters Supply. Killough is great for benchrest shooters buying Eley by the lot number. Champion has a great stock of a variety of 22lr ammos.

"Boycotting" a store (like Dicks) that doesn't sell what you want to buy (guns) is pretty funny. I'm sure they are devastated.

Thinking your "boycott" makes you a champion of the Second Amendment?
Well, don't forget to consider the computer, tablet or smart phone you are currently using.......see, the hardware and software therin was made by Apple, Microsoft, Samsung and many other companies that aren't anymore gun friendly than Dicks.

So don't just stop at boycotting Dicks. If you don't want to be a hypocrite then you need to toss your computer out the door right now. Otherwise you are economically supporting the antigunners.

While you're boycotting Cheaper Than Dirt, don't forget to boycott Target, Sears, JC Penney, Dillards, and all those local hardware stores that used to carry guns...........cause guess what? They chose to pull guns from their shelves decades ago. It doesn't matter whether they made any profit off gun sales we need to teach them a lesson.;)

Which had nothing to do with the right to keep and bear arms and everything to do with a sorry online ordering system.....it allowed customers to order firearms not in stock. Sheesh. CTD was not the only online vendor to realize their e-commerce "solution" was a bit outdated.

They also either sold out of or pulled all the high-cap mags off their site, only to relist them later for about 50% higher prices.
It's called CAPITALISM, don't like it go to Cuba and enjoy their economy.
What CTD did is being done on this and every other gun forum, on GunBroker, and at every gun show by dealers and attendees alike.

Don't like the price? Move on and buy from someone cheaper. It's kinda funny that all the stores that "refuse to raise their prices" don't have anything to sell. :D

January 8, 2013, 10:45 AM
@dogtown tom - I agree with you. I don't have a problem with companies obeying the laws of supply and demand in terms of their pricing.

January 8, 2013, 11:09 AM
Paypal - I'll ask the seller if they'll do a CC, check, or money order. Most will.
BoA. My wife closed her account and told them exactly why.

January 8, 2013, 02:01 PM
I boycott home depot for their stand against Christians and their support toward the gays.

January 8, 2013, 02:12 PM
General Electric

January 8, 2013, 02:35 PM
Wow, tom, thanks for telling us that if we don't like what dicks and CTD do as far as sales and pricing are concerned, we are free to not shop there since its America and all....

I'm pretty sure that's what people are saying here, that they are going to do just that

You seem to think we should be dancing a jig because these companies have acted by raising their prices to three times what they were a week prior, on top of being out of stock.
This doesn't fly with places like MidwayUsa and CDNN keeping their prices low and keeping their inventories just as if not more current.

Don't tell me I don't have the right to be pissed at CTD and boycott them for their unjustified price increases. Its not "evil" its just dumb. Dumb as in you lose the support of your customer base.

January 8, 2013, 02:47 PM
I was going to boycott the hamburger joint, but my resolve is beginning to weaken. Oh well, a 24 hour boycott is a start!! OTOH, my boycott of WalMart has lasted much longer. I'm not sure that it has had much of an impact though.

silicosys4 You seem to think we should be dancing a jig because these companies have acted by raising their prices to three times what they were a week prior, on top of being out of stock.
Ever stop to think if they are out of stock.......it doesn't matter what the price is?
Good grief.

silicosys4 .....This doesn't fly with places like MidwayUsa and CDNN keeping their prices low and keeping their inventories just as if not more current.
You need to compare CDNN's last few "weekend specials" to see that you are sadly mistaken. They raised prices significantly.

Please let me know how many $9.99 PMags Midway is shipping by the way.:scrutiny:

About the same number as Cheaper than Dirt, I'd imagine. The difference is, say, MidwayUSA isn't pissing people off like CTD, losing a customer every time they log in to see that stupid-crazy price next to the "out of stock" notation...MidwayUSA also limited its orders to 2 magazines apiece instead of raising prices, which is means EVERYONE can afford their two mags until they were sold out. Cheaper than dirt....well, they sold out, but they raised prices well before they were sold out, so it wasn't to protect inventory...they made a lot more money, and a lot of people all of the sudden couldn't afford their product, while a few select people with aloooooot of money to spend per mag could.....
Its fair as hell, and its the good old capitalist, American way.
So is not rewarding that kind of cutthroat, top $ capitalism by not doing business with them. Its obvious that supporting max profits matters more to CTD than supporting the gun community. Yay, they sell guns, so do a lot of other places that do much more to support the gun community, instead of bleeding as much from customers as possible in response to terrible tragedies and political atmosphere.
I still gladly boycott the hell out of them... for raising prices to the point that a select few elite people with waaaay more to spend than the average person could afford for mags, thereby making the most profit possible while completely ignoring MSRP.
You don't get it. Its fully legal to call someone an @$$hole and give them the finger. Just don't expect to remain friends. Its bad business to do what CTD did.
Selling 5 pmags at $80 each to some desperate, unprepared idiot with cash to burn doesn't make up for the countless pmags you'll never sell at msrp because you pissed 80% of your customers off to the point of not returning.

January 8, 2013, 03:12 PM
I hope everybody is MORE pissed about how much money our government is throwing away as they are CTD selling magazines at market prices. Smells like greed at both ends to me.

January 8, 2013, 03:18 PM
Lol, boycotting the government is much less effective, and much harder.

January 8, 2013, 03:49 PM
How about boycotting those criminals in DC...

From my work today...

A message from xxxxx, SVP & CHRO, and xxxxxx, Senior Director, Fiscal Services

With the start of the new year, and as a result of the recent changes in the Federal and State tax code, we thought it would be helpful to communicate the changes that you can expect. The material below is intended to be informational; if you have a tax advisor, you may want to consult with them on these changes.

Social Security Payroll Tax Increase:

Social Security payroll tax (FICA), currently at 4.2 percent will increase to 6.2 percent for wages up to $113,700.

The State of Maine has slightly lowered the state tax rate for 2013. (Republican Gov....)

Boycott them.

January 9, 2013, 01:25 AM
Kind of hard to boycott H&K when they don't sell to civilians. Mission accomplished, I guess!

I also tell gun owners to stop bidding on eBay so I get better deals.

January 9, 2013, 10:38 AM
Boycotts may or may not work, but I choose to not spend my money at a place that has a distaste or blatant opposition to my hobby and freedoms.

Toy R Us

Bank of America

CDNN(I had ordered a Beta Mag somewhere and they let me know they were out of stock but CDNN still had them for 139.99. I called CDNN and inquired about them and they said they were 149.99, I said I would call right back to see if my friend wanted me to order him one too. I called back two minutes later and said I need to order two, they said they are now 169.99. I said you seriously went up $20 in two minutes for in stock product, no thanks.)

Buffalo Wild Wings(they are the only bar around me that plays UFC too:banghead:)

Pizza Hut too apparently, better local places for pizza anyways

January 9, 2013, 11:28 AM

Let me say it again

They have banned all retail gun outlets, with the most over reaching anti-firearms policy (http://support.google.com/adwordspolicy/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=176077) online. Try shopping for any firearms items with google and you'll see what the commotion is about. It's important to note that google shopping carries porn, which is apparently more important to them then a constitutional right.

There are others on my list, already mentioned by others, but this one is a huge oversight by most gun owners and gun sights.

January 9, 2013, 11:30 AM
I forgot about google. You can't use the google shopping for guns, magazines, ammo, anything. Used to use it to find the cheapest prices. Wouldn't surprise me if they start excluding it from standard searches.

January 9, 2013, 11:31 AM
I don't boycott. I care about my wallet first.
