Time for a new sport rifle?

Okay lets face it... The AR Platform is over 50 years old, it is a relic by automobile standards. Is it time for somebody to develop a new platform, something not Military related so it will never be termed a "military style" rifle?

I am thinking that with the possibility of a ban on detachable magazines it might be time for somebody to come up with a quick swap tube feed system. With tube friendly rifle rounds available, why not make a tube feed rifle with a detachable tube?

It might be a relic by automotive standards, but the automotive market is less consumer driven. The AR lower can be belt fed, run cartridges from .17" HMR semi-automatic to .50" BMG bolt action, and in standard magazines run from .17" Remington to .458" SOCOM.

The Democrats haven't run into Canmenga magazines yet. A 9 rounder of .458" SOCOM conveniently holds 30 rounds of .223" - and the front pulls down to load it. Don't give up the ship!

I don't think they will get an all out ban on mags passed, but they are going to try. They also are perusing a ban on bullet buttons.. In that event we would need a completely different feed system.

What would really be cool is a central barrel with tubes all the way around it. (think Gatling, but instead of multiple barrels, rotating the tubes around the barrel).

A belt feed would not be real handy for varmint hunting.... okay for the range.
