Need professional AR advice please

I'm a relatively new member but old shooter. Subject: I have owned and still do a number of AR type rifles & carbines. They have always been "store bought". I am seriously considering building a 16" flat top carbine in .223. It looks like it would be easier to buy pre assembled upper & lower but - -. I think I need to build the lower - I know what I want in adjustable stock & I love 3# Timney triggers (have 2) and that eliminates a bunch of parts. I want to do a direct impingement upper on a HEAVY free floating bbl w/1 in 7 twist - no iron sights. I think I may be ahead to buy an upper assy. instead of parts??? I am an accuracy nut (no bolt action remarks pls). I expect a GOOD carbine to shoot within 1 MOA. I am not looking to do this on the cheap - I want quality +. Any suggestions that any member might have that has been there & done that with good results would be welcomed. such as: brand of upper - may prefer SS. Best receiver (they say that doesn't matter). Best bolt assy. (that may come with the upper?) Best screw on flash hider, etc. Guess I'm looking for a pro builders shopping list. Anyone want to share their secret to success? :banghead:

if you want to maximize theoretical accuracy, get a billet upper and a good stainless barrel. the rest doesn't really matter so much although some believe a tight fit between the upper and lower is important (i personally don't)

look at VLTOR MUR or VIS uppers, or any of the billets

look at barrels from white oak, compass lake, noveske stainless, etc.

it's pretty easy to build the upper depending on what handguard you choose.

You're joking right? Right now, you have no hope of actually doing this building one.

I'm not trying to be a jerk...everything AR related is out of stock, everywhere.

Your best bet is to take one that you have and retrofit it if one shoots well enough. Even then, getting the parts you want is going to be a crap shoot.

well, not everything. you can find the VIS uppers in stock as they have always been quite expensive. and there are lots of barrels still in stock in various places. heck, rainierarms still has noveske barrels in stock. rock creek has compass-lake-chambered SPR barrels in stock. (18" wylde chamber rifle gas) even bravocompany has some barrels in stock

the rub is you have to be willing to spend $300 on a lower that hopefully will be worth $80 late this year.

but it's bad timing for sure

I just ordered a Larue Tactical OBR a few weeks ago and I was #18 on hold when I called. Luckily, my FFL friend placed a large order long b4 I did so I have my foot in the door there too. You are right though, sellers getting list + 125% on auctions!

That was what I was counting on - I am willing to pay a premium list price for a premium product but not list +. I think I may be in the minority there so may still be able to put a real nice one together and I'm not in a hurry. I have plenty now so it's a decision which one to take to the range - I have patience.

I think you should just go by a JP, they'll put it together just about any way you want, and you won't build one more accurate yourself.

Right now finding a lower will cost you. I've seen two no name basic forged lowers sell for $300 in the last week. At a gun show I saw one stripped lower in the place and it had $500 on the price tag. Although some dealer assured me mine was worth $150 tops haha.

The other thing that will be hard for a build is a BCG. I'm not sure if any of the more expensive one's can still be had. BCGs were a bit scarce prior to the panic.

I expect a GOOD carbine to shoot within 1 MOA.

The guns I would call "quality +" will do much better, all while being very reliable. Even a chrome lined Noveske is consistently sub MOA. If I was after accuracy first I'd probably give LaRue a look. I'm more familiar with their 308 guns, and what they do is truly impressive. I'd expect their .223 guns are much the same.

Noveske SS guns shoot very well and are known for both their accuracy and reliability.

It might be, I don't really know, that some of the higher end guns may not be as far backlogged as they naturally have a more limited market and are not what a lot of people just looking to get their first AR. It seemed like Noveske uppers sold out a lot slower than all the DPMS, Oly, etc stuff.

Riots in our streets and true revolution? I stopped by my membership indoor range tonight - revolution is what they predict. I asked "where do I enlist?" and the answer was it will come to you. Well I can only shoot 1 AR at a time and have more than 1 and plenty of 30 rd mags. Enough of the angry speculation (or is it?) When our commander and thief intends to use "executive orders" to once again circumvent the law of the land and due process through Congress and lay down new firearms restrictions. I wonder how pissed thinking Americans need to get. Am I the only one who thinks our real enemy is not overseas - They are elected and in D.C.? :fire:

Enough -

I ordered a LaRue Tactical 16" carbine a few weeks ago - long waiting list. We'll see what happens.

Tally - I have emailed as many congressmen as I could daily and from my district as well - I sent Boehner a fax this afternoon. I have been told I'm getting radical in my old age but these people are the problem - apathy, ignorance, on the dole, etc. At 70 I have never seen such a mess - it's like anarchy up there. Why make the laws when those who make them don't give a damn and break them as soon as they are on the books?

I'm getting old and intolerant of liberals (including my college brain washed sister).
