N150 for Garand use??

I'm not familiar with VV powders, but availability is making me look hard at the VV powders. I want a powder that will work equally well in my M1A and Garand with 175SMK bullets. I see in the Hornady manual, and reading on other forums people using N150 in their Garands with heavier bullets. From what I can tell, N140 is equivelent to RL15, so wouldnt n150 even be slower? (i.e. too slow for the Garand?) Thanks-

If N140 is the equivalent of RL15, you don't want to go any slower than that.

The standard is IMR 4895. This powder was used in the NM ammunition for both the 308 and 30-06. The first choice of powders for Garands/M1a's should be IMR 4895/H4895/AA2495. Particularly as the 308 was developed using IMR 4895 as the propellant.

I tried N140 in the 308, it was recommended by a Vihtavuori for the M1a, ought to work in the 30-06. Don't go any slower.

Hornady thinks it's ok.
In their #8 manual, in .30/06 M1 data, they state they got best results with VV N150. Also, with N140 and H4895.
They only listed N150 with 165-168gr bullets, however.
Only N135 was listed with 150-155.

I use N140 for my .303 British loads,so I would surmise it would work in an '06...

Hmm, the burn rate charts I just looked at show it to be basically a "4350" burn rate powder. Would never use it in my Garands.
