I have been wanting to "accuratize" my newest addition to my collection for a general purpose rifle that can be used hunting if needbe.

In my research for a better shooting SKS, I had read that it is sometimes as simple as replacing the front sight with a skinnier one and that is exactly what I did. I spent 7$ to have a new, skinnier one sent to me.

About a week later I got it in the mail. Pretty standard fare and plain packaging. About 10 minutes of youtube later i installed it myself with a front sight tool that i purchased at the same time as the sight.

Here are my two targets at 100 yards. The first target is using Tula FMJ ammo and was my first group after I sighted the SKS in at 25 yards.

I think its shooting pretty decent with everything hitting the paper and getting a fair amount in the black.

Heres my second group. Its a decent amount worse. Im not sure if it was from the cold, shoooting fatigue, ammo, or the most probable...user error ;)

I shot this group using Tula HP ammo.

Not the best grouping, but both are with an SKS with irons in about 30 degree weather using a 12 pack soda box as a rifle rest.

I may have to invest in the tech sight for the rear now too. That or a trigger job. That sks trigger is definitely heavy

While kind of expensive, the tech sight is a huge improvement in sks accuracy. Mine now shoots about baseball sized groups at 100 yards even with cheap ammo. When combined with a skinny front post, the results may surprise you.

I would say you have some fouling or grease in your barrel. The Yugo can do better than that with the standard sight. The triggers are horrible on most Yugo's. The trigger job on mine is one of the best improvements I did. I can get around 4MOA if I do my part and the ammo is good.
If yours is the A1 model all the extra iron hanging on your barrel doesn't help either.

Yeah, mines the A1 so its pretty front heavy.

I am not looking for any crazy accuracy or anything. I just want to use it for minute of deer and with the blacktail around here and my own (eventual) loads i think it will do a fine job as long as i do mine. Thats the hard part :P
