By nature I am a highly critical person and I rarely find a piece of equipment that I like. I had been hearing/reading good things about Hoffners Speed Pro holster so I decided to give one a try. I just returned from the range and my initial impressions are positive.

I am not, nor have I ever been, fast from the holster. My times from the holster generally run around 1.35 seconds at seven yards cold.

Today I conducted my standard range exercises using my current EDC holster. I then put on the Speed Pro. I drew and fired one shot at 7 yards. All of my times hovered in the 1.15 range with nothing over 1.20 and a best time of 1.09. Keeping in that my performance may have been due to the fact that I had warmed up, I put my EDC holster back on and performed the same drill. Times hovered around 1.25 with a best time of 1.21. It is also important to note that I had only dry-fired from the Speed Pro about 20-30 times previous to this trip to the range. All shots were to the center of an IDPA target.

Positive Comments:
- As far as I am concerned, this holster is fast.
- While I am not an expert, the holster looks good.
- Cost is a very reasonable $45. (I asked them to line mine with suede which cost extra.)
- Customer Service on the phone was excellent.

Negative Comments:
- A little slow in returning my e-mail. I would recommend calling.
- Delivery time was quoted as 10-14 days. It was more like 3 1/2 weeks.
- I asked that they line the holster with suede (similar to a 6004) in an effort to help preserve what was left of my gun's finish. The lining grabs a little bit which slows me down slightly. I suspect I might pick-up .05 seconds with an unlined version. (To be fair, they advised against the lining but I insisted.)
- I have had a hard time adjusting the tension of the holster to achieve my ideal balance of speed and security. I attribute this to the lining.
- The butt of my pistol rides a little farther out from my body than I would prefer. It may or may not be a concealment issue.
- The lining has a STRONG smell of leather, sufficient to attract other people's attention. Hopefully it will subside over time.

Unfortunately, I failed to communicate that I wanted the holster sized for a 1.25" belt and I received one sized for a 1.5" belt. As I currently lack magazine puches and a light carrier for a 1.5" belt, I have not carried using this holster. I will comment further once I have had a chance to carry it for a while.

While I have shot in a few matches, I do not consider myself a competitive shooter. This holster does seem to be well suited for competition.

As I stated earlier, my inital impressions are positive. If you are in the market for a holster, I would recommend taking a look at this one.

I hope you find this information useful.
