Folks I lurk here a lot because I see how heavily this forum is monitored and don't know if I'll comply with the rules. But I want to make everyone aware of how MoveOn is getting into this "discussion". So, my activism is if you are aware, you can plan your own response.
My wife works for a public school system - I think she's on a list somewhere that got her email address shared. She got this and so I am passing it on for your awareness and appropriate counter responses in your own communities.
"Just three weeks ago, MoveOn members and our allies came together at over 300 candlelight vigils across the country to remember the victims of the Newtown tragedy and call for an end to gun violence.
It was a powerful display of national unity and a clear sign that people are ready for a change—but in the month since the Newtown shooting another 500 lives have been lost to gun violence.1 We can't wait any longer.
That's why on Thursday, January 17th, MoveOn members and allies will gather in living rooms and community centers across the country to begin planning next steps to end gun violence. If you've never hosted an event like this before, that's ok, we'll provide everything you need for a successful meeting. Can you host a meeting in XXXX (removed our location) next Thursday?
As Lori Haas, whose daughter survived the Virgina Tech shooting, said, "Your actions, your efforts, and your organizing will save lives."
The tragedy in Newtown was a wake-up call on the gun violence occurring daily in this country—and on the need to push for new policies that finally end this source of pain and suffering. From demanding a plan from Congress and campaigning for states to pass stricter gun control laws to holding gun retailers like Wal-Mart accountable—the Community Committees Against Gun Violence are a launching pad for taking action to end gun violence.

Thanks for all you do.

Mods . . . if I'm off the mark, I apologize.
