I still remember the Model 70s brought out in 1972. Nice wood stocks with cut checkering and fore-end and pistol grip spacers and caps.

I had just bought a new Rem 700 the prior year, which had cheap wood and pressed checkering. The stock warped badly. Needless to say, I was disgusted that I did not wait a year and then buy the Mod 70. It was just that much nicer.

Does anyone have a Win Model 70 built in 1972? Has is the action on that year's guns? What feedback can you provide on its shooting?

I am considering trying to find one. Thanks.

My neighbor has a Winchester Model 70 made in 1972. It's the cheaper model with a blind magazine, but it's a good shooter, and it's a Winchester.
