"Shooter on campus" seminar.

I work at a medium sized state supported college and we had a seminar on Wednesday conducted by Campus Police on how to react to a shooter on campus. Usual information and some insights shared by cops who had attended Homeland Security briefings on school shootings.

What I found interesting was that during the Q&A session at the end one ditzy woman whined about why police felt the need to kill the gunman rather than try to wound him or use non-lethal means to subdue him. Sheesh. Meanwhile, about 20 people (mostly women) began clamoring for the right to be armed on campus. Currently state law and college policy forbids being armed on college property. The officer leading the seminar said that talks are quietly underway between LE, the state legislature and college administrators about the possibility of allowing employees with carry permits to pack on campus.

It seems that while the Obama administration's response to Sandy Hook may be getting rid of guns the response amongst educators is to want a gun available.

I'm glad there's still at least a small population of logical thinkers out there. Just out of curiosity, what state are these talks being held in (if u don't mind me asking)? also, from what you've written, it sounds like the students still won't be able to carry. 1 step at a time right? :)

I am intentionally skipping mine today. I teach at a very liberal college and know it will not go well.

I cringe whenever I hear "you can just shoot to wound". These people obviously lack knowledge in basic anatomy if they think a hit to the brachial or femoral artery is less lethal than a wound to the chest that misses all major arteries.

I wish mine would hold one. I'd like to get folks all riled up.
