Bought some Hornady 2245 50 grain .224 sp Varmint bullets today and some 748 powder. I do not have a Hornady manual and I forgot to snap a picture of the page in the Hornady manual at the store, which is 35 miles away.

These will be loaded with Win 748 -- The only powder they had available and will be loaded with Winchester Small Rifle Primers and in .223 casings destined for an AR15.

My Lyman for Jacketed 50g says start is 26.1 Max at 29
My Lee for Jacketed 50g says 22.9 start and 26 max. Hodgdon website does not list a starting load. But lists max at 26. That's a heck of a difference between the 3.

They didn't even have a manual for sale or I would have bought it. Just had a store copy.

Thanks!

T.C.

Unfortunately my manuals are currently packed up. Midway usually has Hornday manuals in stock for your permanent collection. In the meantime I'm sure someone will be along shortly with the data.

SWEET! Thanks!!

I got half way home and went aw crap! I forgot to get the picture.

Thanks for the help! Now I just need to find the die set. Should have grabbed it 2 weeks ago when I was buying dies. Why did I have to get into reloading the week before the stuff hit the fan.... Oh well.

I'm guessing that data came from an older Hornady manual because it doesn't match the data I have in the new 9th Edition Handbook.

Sounds like you need to buy a Hornady book.

He said he was trying to but they were sold out at Midway. This is a bad time to get started in reloading but all the components will be available eventually IMO.

Yup. Midway was out and so was locally. I just didn't need one when they were available, but now I do And now they aren't available locally. I'll find one in due time. I literally got the press the day before the CT shooting as a Birthday gift. So the timing is just REALLY bad.

Well crap. I must have seen the 8th edition at Midway. The 9th is available!

That's relatively good news for you. Now if you can just scrounge some primers up, you'll be all set.

I keep an eye out. Rifle primers and large pistol have been relatively not terrible to find. Small pistol impossible once people found out my LGS had a stockpile of them. I don't shoot enough right now to warrant hoarding but I'd like to get another 1000. That would get me though this nightmare, unless I start doing more of these shooting games the local ranges are starting up.

Plus I'm still buying things for more calibers I own. Still need to get a 380, 7.62x54r and 30-30 die set plus the turret plates. I may have gotten the press for free but all these sets are going to be worth more than my press! Those don't even include other calibers that I'll get to reload for some of my friends and family. The bug has gotten to me. I think I like the R&D as much as I like to shoot.
