Doing this is good, certainly doesn't hurt. I can tell you my experience when I worked for some politicians was that personal letters, and email, are more meaningful. A mass of form letters still has some impact, just not as much as a big mass of personal ones.
It is better than nothing, but personal letters/emails, and calls are still needed.

I write every senator that I can think of. They ALL work for us and if I have an opinion they can hear it. Not that it accomplishes anything. We all keep trying... Alas.
