What "gun bug" do you have right now?

I go through various "gun bugs", where I get obsessed with certain guns that I convince myself I must have. The cure comes with caving and buying the gun, but many times I can talk myself out of a purchase if the gun won't serve a specific purpose in my collection, or if really think about the money.

Current gun bugs:

1) Outfitting my AR- Looking at reflex sights, grips, stocks, etc. I haven't gotten into looking at mechanical components (triggers, etc) yet. This can become and expensive hobby.

2) Beretta CX4 Storm carbine that accepts Beretta 92 9mm mags. I rented one at a range to try it out, to see if I could cure myself. Only made things worse. The fact that this gun basically has zero recoil cemented my desire. I have a 92FS, so it would be great to share mags. I would put a light and a red dot sight on it, and it would be fantastic for home defense.

3) "Vintage" .380 ACP pistols (Walthers, Mausers, Berettas). I really like styling of these old pistols. The design/lines are clean, smooth... classic. Passed on a really sweet Beretta at a gun show... went back for it and it was gone. One of these would serve very little purpose in my collection. In fact, it would really be the only collectable I have.

4) I'm starting to like the idea of getting a 1911; probably a Sig. I have a Springfield xD in .45 that has a bit more recoil than I care for in a HD pistol, and I'm not that accurate with. I shot a buddy's 1911 and appreciated the additional weight (and accompanying reduced felt recoil), so I'm considering parting with my xD in the next year, and putting money with it on a 1911.

Recently cured myself of an obsession with a Sig P938. Rented one and shot it at the range, and it jammed on me at least once per magazine. While I hear that Sig has corrected these issues in new production runs, I don't want to gamble $700 on a gun. Plus I can drive tacks with my P238 and it has been 100% reliable.

Anyone else suffer from this affliction?

I had a thing for the C96 mauser since I was a kid along with lugers. I finally picked up 2 lugers in the last 18 months. And with all the assault rifle talk on the news, I threw one of my wasr10 AKs out for trade. I was hoping either a broom handle mauser or another luger. Well the AK brought in a broom handle mauser.
So now Im kicking around another full sized 1911. jim

I, too, just got a SIG 938. During the first 50 rounds, it had one ftf and 3 early lock-opens. (It WAS NOT cleaned, lubed, just shot new out of the box).

Brought it home, broke it down, cleaned and lubed it. Since then, it has been absolutely 100% perfect.

Kind of looking for a .223 bolt gun like the Mossberg MVP. It would fill a hole in my accumulation.

Iv been on the Enfield bug for the last 3 years. since I bought Ian Skennerton's-The Lee Enfield- 600 page book, I have moved away from the common no1mk4s and no1mkIIIs. Iv been on the lookout for CLLEs,CLLMs, MLMs,MLEs,RIC carbines and cavalry carbines. they are much harder to find.

the book has been very helpful in looking at the few examples Iv seen, most of the ones Iv seen for sale are complete mismatches. often with just the original receiver.
Iv only managed to snag one this last year a very nice RIC carbine at a great price and was out bid on a decent CLLE on gun broker.

unfortunately for me, most of the guns I'm drooling over only exist in my mind, and I'm not in a position to design and build them.

I would like to get more range time with what I already have, and be able to shoot as well as I used to when I shot more often.
I got some new contact lenses, and would like to see if they make a difference. I am 20/10 now, and the doc said I have 30 year old eyes.I am 64, so hopefully I can shoot like I did at 30.
I find that sometimes it'd best to shoot what you have until you get as good as you can get. I like shooting 45's which can get expensive if you don't reload, Which I just can't get started with right now.
There was a time I had 2 guns for 22 years in NY, now I have 7, and shoot less than ever, so I really need to stick to 1 or 2 guns and shoot the crap out of them until it becomes second nature. Sometimes you forget that you have guns that are sitting back in the safe that you used to love, and for some reason stopped using.
With polymer guns, it's pretty much the same type of feel weather it's a Glock or an xd or a M&P, they still are still different in the way they shoot, and latelly I have been going to single stack guns that feel different than what I am used to.
Having started with single stack's and revolvers, it was a big switch going to Glock type pistols, now it's reversed. Perhaps shooting your carry gun or guns is a better way of setting goals instead of falling for the latest gun of the week "which we ar all guilty of", And I found going back to the 1911 a much more accurate and precise gun to shoot, "I had forgotten".

I'm with you. I get the itch for certain guns and then talk myself out of it. Some of the guns I've bought have been to fill that itch and for no other reason. I ended up regretting those purchases.

The most recent gun I bought is one that I have wanted for a couple years now. The DPMS Tac 20 (308 AR style rifle w/ 20 inch barrel and quad rail). I think I will now focus on outfitting that gun. I want a top of the line scope for it, and I might get into NFA and get a suppressor for it. We shall see...

I want a rifle for mid-range target shooting. Just a decent rifle in .243, .25-06, or 6.5cm (a few others I'd consider, too) with a decent scope. I had one for a while, a Savage 10 (albeit with a cheapy scope), but sold it for some other things that have helped my shooting skills. Now that my skills are up to par, I'm wanting another good scoped target rifle to push my skills further.

Reloading. -- got a kit for my birthday from family the week before the CT junk so it's hard to start but have been keeping up. I have a few more dies and brass to buy. Have already done 45, 44, and 9. I also have dies to do my 270. I need dies yet in 223, 380, 7.62x54r and 30-30. I want to get into shotgun reloading too. I can't really save money here as I mostly shoot clay for fun but I'm enjoying reloading. It's like a big kid physics set.

Repair -- Been building/fixing and repairing. I have a Glenfield 70 with mag problems, and Mossberg 500 with extraction issue, a Keltec with extraction issues. Plus I'm putting a stock on a Marlin 60 and want to duracoat a badly beaten Winchester Model 12 and a Savage 84c. And I'm building an AR

Homebrew. If it's not registered or in a manufacturer FFL's records, it officially "doesn't exist", and the more people who can make their own receivers from billets, raw forgings or when it matures stereolithographic 3d-printing, the more pointless and unenforceable any proposed ban becomes. I like the early series 70 1911s from Colt and been looking for a nice 4" or 6" S&W Model 27. Saw a nice Colt Series 70 Gold Cup NM at a show today for $1,450 and was real tempted as it was like new. I have that bug:

S&W 9mm Shield. Have been on a wait list since this past July. Was called by my shop and told I have 24 hours to decide or it goes to the next in line. After hours of reflection, checking for holsters, spare mags, looking at my current 9mm collection and knowing that I am in love with my G27 for carry purposes, I talked myself out of it this morning and notified the shop. I am also wrestling with getting into the REM 700 game. Currently deciding on .308 or 30-06. Not sure where that is going. Some days I want to move on it and others could care less. .17 is starting to get intriguing too.

Savage Mk II FV-SR. I finally found one in stock and ordered it, but Bud's is swamped due to the current crazyness, and I'm coming up on 2 weeks without a shipping confirmation.

Beyond that, I'm waiting for the proceeds of a recent sale to come in so I can accessorize, but I haven't received payment yet.

To add further insult to injury, the Boyd's Tacticool stock is sold-out everywhere I've looked, so even if I had the rifle and cash in hand, I still couldn't finish the project.

I hate waiting.

currently I am afflicted with a desire to own a Colt 1911 Gold Cup....... saw a regular Colt 1911 at my local shop and liked it. Looked into it a little more and decided I'd rather have the Gold Cup. So my radar is on passive mode currently as i browse different online forum classifieds and visit other shops. No luck so far, but I did come across a nice used Ithaca model 37 12 guage($125). Gonna pick it up, have the front sight replaced and get it reblued. Will make a nice early Christmas gift for my nephew to hunt with this fall.

Most gun bugs come and go for me, and that's how I know they're bugs. The ones that are persistent are the ones I consider real needs:

Latest bugs: bolt rifle in .338 WinMag, semi-auto 12ga, steel-framed pistol in 40S&W, 4" revolver in .357Mag, Glock 31 barrel

Real needs: pocket-carry .380 or 9mm, AR in .223/5.56 with an added 300 Blackout upper (ok, that last one is a bug)

1. 30/30 lever action
2. Better "assault rifle" which takes 5.56nato (I have an ar180b).

I need to get serious about selling off my excess from when I was collecting like mad 15 years ago.

Been reading quite a bit abou the new .17 that Winchester/Savage is going to release this year. It's the .17 SuperMagnum. Pushing 20 & 25 grain pills at 2600 and 3000 FPS, respectively. I guess it's based on the .27 shell that Winchester makes for construction guns. I'm 1st on the list to get one at a local shoppe.

Even before things got crazy, I was seriously looking for a few items,
A R-25 in .243 AND a .357 Desert Eagle

I may still be able to find the Eagle ,but the R-25 is worth gold according to anybody selling one anyway.....

As with many in the past - firearms I have "backed into" with no previous desire to own have pushed me in a new direction of interest.

A converted (.45ACP/.45AR) Mak VI Enfield and a Llama .38 Super.

I'd been dodging ever opening the Colt .38 Super conversion that came with my 9x23 1911 but after shooting the Llama, I might give it a go in the Colt now as well.

Semi-auto version of a battle rifle - something is .308 / 7.62 x 51. Not a good time for that is it? I kind of feel I need one, not sure what I want, just feel a need for one.

I'm also feeling the full auto version, but that's another story.

I'm thinking, in the future, an SP101 in .327 magnum.

.45 ACP. Not a 1911. I was looking at a nice Sig P220, then the Glock 30, then the Glock 36, then I just heard about the soon to be released Glock 30S...now I really want one.

I also just read a good review of the Sig ACP (http://www.sigsauer.com/Catalog/acp-adaptive-carbine-platform.aspx), and I really want one for my G34 !!!

I like that others noticed that sometimes it's just a bug, other times it's a genuine need. Usually, it's a bug.

My bugs:

A really nice 1911

A pistol caliber carbine

A Remington pump-action rifle in .308 or .30-06

A nice old drilling

I do need a Glock 23 (GenIII) then the bug is a .357Sig barrel

Chopping the long full choke barrel on my 870

Getting into reloading

I need AMMO! I'm out of range-safe 5.56 & .50 Beowulf, and I'm not as stocked as I'd like to be in .45-70, .45LC, 12 bore 00 Buck, .410 bore 3" 000 Buck, and range-safe 7.62x39 & 54R (local indoor range says no steel case or steel core).

Wanting to build up a what the M40 basic sniper rifle would have been had it had the Winchester Model 70 Action. So basically a M70, with a target barrel, hoping that maybe they will release another Stealth model as a Shot Show Special, if not I may be looking to pick up a cheap Ultimate Shadow model and re-barrell it. Get a McMillan stock, 1913 rail to mount some expensive scope on maybe a Nightforce or Huskemaw, and a nice Harris bipod, all in 7.62 NATO / .308 to keep ammo costs lower and not burn through barrels as a 'practice' rifle.

That and I'm also toying with the idea of a 80% AR15. We'll see when they get out of backorder though!

I have been trying to get my rifles topped with practical, handsome, classic looking scopes, without breaking the bank:

I'm all but done with outfitting my AR. A set of back up iron sights, canted to 45 degrees left, is the last thing on my list aside from mags and ammo.

Other than that, I'm itching for a .22 semi auto pistol, and a left handed .30-06 bolt action.

The .22 I've kicked around for so long and have put off due to indecision on which one I want to get, but that left handed bolt action has been in my head for awhile. I've contemplated selling my M-44, ammo and accessories to help fund it.

My main one that I am completely obsessing over right now is finding a full auto M11/9.

I also want to get a .410 Saiga for the wife to match the 12 I just bought. An M1 Garand, an M1 Carbine and any and all milsurp are also on the short list.

Anyone else suffer from this affliction?

A pocket 9mm and a snub nose .357 are currently at the top of my shopping list. I was planning on picking up one or both after the first of the year, but the gun buying panic threw a real monkey wrench into that idea (even though neither type gun ever appeared likely to be subject of any sort of restrictions or bans). :(

9mm revolvers

9mm carbines

Mossberg 930 SPX

Bullpups in general but the Tavor Flat top specifically

I don't think the current panic is affecting the sales of Rohrbaugh R9s - but they were on a 5 week backorder even before hurricane Sandy hit.

I ordered mine in November:

I was kind of hoping to spend less than the $1000+ cost of an R9s for both the pocket 9mm and the .357 snubbie, combined. ;)
