Does anyone have any experience using a Burris Fastfire on an AK using an Ultimak Rail? Is the mount low enough for the optic to co-witness with the iron sights?

I have a fast fire. Do, your self a favor and save another couple hundred dollars and buy an Aimpoint H1 or T1. I also have the T1. The fast fire is ok. To me the aimpoint is easily worth another $200-300.

I'm not sure how happy a life the FF would live an a very very hot ultimak. Even if the heat would not be an issue I'd get the aimpoint. A concern for heat was not really the basis for my comments above.

Agree with Girodin on the Aimpoint...

But I'll just throw this out there... if you don't mind a little extra weight, a 30mm tube optic in a Midwest Industries 30mm side mount will co-witness, and you get a QD mount. Assuming of course that your AK has the side rail.

I have the Fast Fire II with the extra mount protection. It's a grossly overpriced set up and never should have bought it. It was actually a gift. I saw recently where they made some changes to it. Mine is very touchy to adjust and requires special small screw driver to do so. The dot is very poor and can only be adjusted by putting black tape on or off the sensor. These things belong on a pistol or maybe a shot gun.
I bought one of the newer UTG dots with a 3X magnifier and like it a lot more.
I did recently Install it on my Norinco SKS type M because some gave me a good mount and it seems to work ok.

I have a Fastfire III and while it is a great little sight on my 10-22 takedown, I would not expect it to survive the heat of an Ultimak.

I owned a Maadi with an Ultimak, and the Fastfire only allowed you to barely see the front sight. It sits too high, so to answer your question about Cowittness.....No, it won't.

Aimpoint T1 is the best, but I know from experience, the Primary Arms MD-07 clone will work, and survive the heat just fine. Good luck finding one of those though. They have been out of stock since last spring, and they are now projecting a March delivery.

That is another thing I should have noted. The FF, probably does need the protective mount on anything that you aren't going to be really careful with. By the time you get that too you are really closing in on the price of an aimpoint pro. You probably are within $100 of it. You get a huge step up for that $100 though.
