Wanted to get some advice on maintaning my glock 19 generation 4. Right now my maintenance skill set only includes feild stripping, however I am looking to change that. Id like to know the best training materials for a complete breakdown and re assembly, as well as what spare parts I should have on hand for the lifetime of the gun, which is still NIB. Any spare parts kit reccomendations for gen 4 19 would be appreciated.

My advice?

You will screw something up or wear something out like the pins taking it apart that far all the time, or occasionally, then you will if you never take it apart that far.

I have a Glock 23 I bought new in 1995 that has never been torn completely apart.

If I was buying spare parts.
I would buy a recoil spring assembly.
And plan on using it about $3000 worth of ammo from now.

And some spare magazine springs.
They will need replacing every $3000-$4000 worth of ammo too.

Other then that?
Nothing but bore brushes and cleaning solvent & patches.

If you just have to tear something up, and can't help yourself, there are decent instructions here:

I do not plan on fully breaking the gun down often, I'm talking maybe every 3-5 years. I just want a good working knowledge and want to have proper replacement springs/parts on hand in case they happen to become harder to obtain in the future.

Several shooting supply stores carry Glock Armorer Kits which include a DVD and tools. The Glock Store and Glockmeister are two, but I bet Midway and others carry as well.

Best training material for slide and frame tear-down is YouTube.... Heck, I could probably just type out how to do everything in a matter of minutes, it's so simple.
