Post panic Romy WASR AK-47 price

January 15, 2013, 03:06 PM
A guy I know is thinking about selling his Romanian AK, along with 500 rounds of ammo.
He isn't sure what to ask for it, and asked me for advice.

I figure a package like that, pre-panic, would be about $600, maybe a little less.

But that's ancient history, and I was thinking something more along the lines of $1000 for the package. I've seen just the rifles themselves go for that much, and bulk 7.62x39 is pushing close to .75 a round.

Is the a fair price in these crazy priced times?

That sounds about right for prices right now. He might even get more if he tries.

I think that's a bit high, even in my commie state...Saiga's are about $1k.

I saw a WASR is local gun store the other week. They wanted $850 for it. No thanks.

Instead, I bought a new 7.62x39mm Saiga for $470 (cheapest price I've seen for a few months now) and just converted it for about $150.

It's much nicer than any WASR will ever be.

I think I'll tell him $750-$800 is a decent deal. Heck, I might offer him $700 and try to flip it.

In this climate, depending also on how many mags he has to throw in, 1 K with ammo is pretty fair all things considered. I've had my WASR - 10/63 for years, put 1000's of rounds through it, never cleaned it, and have had 0 failures. They are junky and clunky, but if this example runs well 1 K is fair these days.

I need to ask about mags. I think he may only have one or two.

To my experience, the cheap heavy steel Romanian or egypt Maddi mags work well in the WASR - in fact, some expensive USA made poly ones won't fit. AK mags should be plentiful into the future. The ammo makes this an OK deal in my book. The overall 'premium' you're paying seems about 250-350 over pre-scare prices. Not bad and even if this ban never pans out, the WASR is a fun shooter you won't need to make into a 'safe queen'. You'll enjoy the rifle.:) (IF Y-O-U buy it, that is- why not buy it?).

that seems fair. he could probably get more depending on the condition of it and how many rounds he has put through it. If he's got a couple mags with it he could add a little bit more to the price.

The gunshow prices on WASR new in box is about $1250 plus tax. So for a used excellent one , $1000 is about right . Plus the ammo, thats another $250.

I saw a WASR yesterday in a LGS. The price was over $1100. It did have a bayonet though.

wished I would have had foresight and bought a bunch of these cheapo AK 47 rifles...give it a few months and these panic buyers will be pushed by mama to sell em cause bills need to be paid, Chritsmas etc. they will be available...yall just hold on. I aint paying no price gougers...dont need anything right now, thank goodness.

Gun show prices are always way out of line even during normal times. The gun is worth somewhere between $600 -$750 right now during the panic. The ammo can go for about .30 a round if actually wants to sell it.

Insanity keeps going I saw a new in the box WASR-10/63 sell on GB about a week ago for just under $2,000,starts to make me wonder what I could get in a few more weeks for my fairly well built (by WASR standards Tacticool ized 10/63 with rails, red dot, folding FAL style stock, etc. close to a dozen magazines (mix of steel and tapco's) along with a a couple of thousdand rounds of sealed 7.62x39. May just have to take it to the next local gun show and see.
