It should, and I like the way you think. I wonder if feeding would be a problem though.

I'm thinking of necking it up to accept .30 caliber bullets, chambering it in a mini-14 and calling it good. :)
it would have to be a single column jobber, though.

Given the fat case, wouldn't the receiver ring possibly be too small in diameter?

I don't know about the AR-15, but there are AR-10s out there that can chamber the .300 WSM, and it seems like all it would take would be a rebarrel to make the AR-10 shoot the .243 WSSM. FWIW, I think a .243 WSSM AR is a really cool idea.
