Genuine SigSauer P226 Barrel?

January 15, 2013, 05:17 PM
Do all genuine SigSauer barrels have the SigSauer stamping on them? More specifically P226 barrels. I bought a .40 S&W barrel and it doesn't fit my slide.

The only thing that is stamped is .40 S&W SIG on my new barrel, where as my factory barrel has .357sig on one side and SigSauer and DE stamped on the other side.

Also the finishes seem very different.

The packaging it came in says "Genuine Parts + Accessories" but that could easily be faked.

Basically I just want to know if I should try to work with the same dealer to exchange it for a barrel that hopefully works next time or if it's some 3rd party crap and should straight up return it.

My P226 .40 S&W and 357 SiG barrel look like your 357 SiG barrel...mine are both Sig made...

IMHO not a Sig Barrel the finish is wrong. I have never seen a factory Sig barrel with a parkerized finish, the lettering is wrong & the profile of the barrel is wrong. Send it back get a refund!

Those are most definitely not the same barrels.

Return it immediately.

I've been into Sigs for 20 years and I seriously doubt that is a Sig factory barrel.

That's not a SIG barrel. If you paid for factory, you should get factory.

A similar question was asked on the SIG forum and the answer was YES. However, the barrel profiles do look slightly different here versus fairly identical there. The question was initially about a SP2340 barrel, but a well-respected SIG gunsmith stated other models had followed suit. Also, made in USA versus made in Germany?

wgsigs, thanks for that link. That helped to shed some light on the situation.

Sadly, I still have to return it since it does not fit my slide properly. It doesn't sit properly and won't lock up so if I try to put the slide back on it only goes like 80% of the way.:banghead:

Well it is probably a genuine Sig barrel, but yours didn't look like the correct Sig barrel. Where the barrel came together with the barrel hood did not look the same as your old .357Sig one. It is a shame you have to go through all of this.

Is your P226 an Elite? Maybe it has a slightly different barrel from a standard P226.

I was thinking about going the other way with my .40 P229 but now I might consider paying more for a Bar-Sto barrel after hearing about your experience.

Yes it's an Elite, though I don't think the barrels are different based upon that.

I thought that may be the fact too that it could be just a different model barrel because there's nothing on the packaging or barrel itself that designates it as a P226.

So are Sig barrels now being made in the US but a different source?
