Ugliest gun I've ever seen

I cruise the firearms auctions and ran across this one in an upcoming auction. It is described as a WWI rifle. My gosh, what an abomination?

Oddly - the only thing I find aesthetically unforgivable is the trigger guard and the angle of the mag - which looks like an 0-3 air-service single stack mag to me.

Surface appearance does not make a gun ugly. Price does. A formerly beautiful $800 AR15 can become real ugly when it has a $4000 price tag on it.

If that thing shoots straight and reliably, then it is beautiful to me.

For me, Firearms are tools designed to do a job. I don't understand the obsession with pretty guns. They are not for looking at. Glossy magazine articles about pretty guns lead a bunch of folks into paying big money for big name firearms that do not function better than the ugly ones. (And if they do function better, it's not because they are pretty.)

I don't do glass-front gun cases or pretty guns. (Unless the pretty one happens to shoot as well as an ugly old mauser 98 or maybe an ugly new Savage 10 series, without costing more.)

I agree with pretty much everything that has been said. I kinda like it, but I also kinda want to drag it behind my truck. I sorta feel that maybe I'd kinda like to pick it up and take a closer look, up to and including the price tag. But also, it makes my eyes twitch. I can't seem to stop looking at it.

interestingly the trigger guard seems to be apart of a Bingham Squires .22 AR.

Very practical tactical, nice buffer pad, and reflective stock for signaling planes with.

One way to look at it is: you won't be taking that to the range and have the "been there done that" troll come up tellin' you all about how he had one of those...

The bolt handle looks... odd. A .22 with a BAR mag stuck to the bottom?

Also concur. Though that trigger guard could stand to have some more work done.

I would like the gun if the triggerguard was "normal" and it didn't have that thing for a buttplate. Also, it would have been nice if they could have not put in the studs and blued the new metal to match.

In other words - just a normal springfield with the capability to use a BAR mag

These rifles were notorious for needing repairs often due to the fact that after firing a magazine, the shooter had to take the rifle by the muzzle, and with a screaming leap, smash it on the ground and proceed to bodysurf into the crowd of onlookers

The wood to metal fit is.... creative.

The close-ups of the very poor wood finishing job, badly marred barrel, and rusty action are mildly nauseating.

At least it's probably chambered in the ever popular .303

but, from the photo of the left side of the rifle, it appears that the stock must have been originally intended for a Krag.
All it really lacks for the Red Green touch is .... duct tape.

I think it is an ak that a guy made from a shovel. I saw a write up of this done by the builder/owner a while back. Took the shovel and beat it flat, folded it up to build the receiver, used the handle as the stock. May be a different gun patterned off of that one. It was an amusing write up.

In the absence of duct tape there would at least have to be bailing wire or re-purposed fence wire as an indicator of the "Red Green" influence. Or - if the stock were made from a canoe paddle.
