jmace57 January 16, 2013, 06:33 PM I cruise the firearms auctions and ran across this one in an upcoming auction. It is described as a WWI rifle. My gosh, what an abomination?

BHP FAN January 16, 2013, 06:38 PM sportered Springfield with a BAR magazine?
meanmrmustard January 16, 2013, 06:39 PM Kill it...Kill it with fire...
The only way to kill it is to behead it, burn its heart, go to the nearest church and pray.
M-Cameron January 16, 2013, 06:39 PM ........i kind of like it.
Texan Scott January 16, 2013, 06:54 PM The tacks... is it leather upholstered?
Does it currently belong to Gene Simmons?
Can it be used to light cigars possibly?
My eyes hurt from the UGLY.
I want to set it on a 20# pile of thermite and make it go away....
HoosierQ January 16, 2013, 06:56 PM I'm thinking maybe movie prop? Otherwise it's like a "theater knife" and and "trade musket" got together and had a baby!
firesky101 January 16, 2013, 06:59 PM ........i kind of like it.
concur
browneu January 16, 2013, 07:01 PM I've seen AR pistols that were just as bad.

Better take off and nuke it from orbit. It's the only way to be sure.
Fishslayer January 16, 2013, 07:03 PM The only way to kill it is to behead it, burn its heart, go to the nearest church and pray.
Nuke it from orbit. It's the only way to be sure...
EDIT: LOL @ USAF Vet... GMTA :D
egg250 January 16, 2013, 07:04 PM I kind of like it. Definitely interesting. Of course I think KISS is the greatest band that has ever existed.
Walt622 January 16, 2013, 07:10 PM And yet, somewhere a gunsmith is thinking, "Man, I did an awesome job!"
:what:
Swing January 16, 2013, 07:13 PM :what: Combination Buck Rodgers and Kiss?

Viottato January 16, 2013, 07:18 PM Worst Iv'e ever seen.......
Lupinus January 16, 2013, 07:26 PM My God it looks like the love child of an enfield and an edwardian sofa.
What in the world is that thing?
TurtlePhish January 16, 2013, 07:31 PM Dat trigger guard. :scrutiny:
I bet it's a scheme from the antis: secretly create a gun so ugly it'll make gun owners' brains hemorrhage, then auction it somewhere public to give it as much exposure as possible. They're trying to kill us!
My God it looks like the love child of an enfield and an edwardian sofa.
...this made me laugh. :D
230RN January 16, 2013, 07:33 PM Scary. Big Magazine. Banit. Banit now.
ApacheCoTodd January 16, 2013, 07:36 PM Oddly - the only thing I find aesthetically unforgivable is the trigger guard and the angle of the mag - which looks like an 0-3 air-service single stack mag to me.
Apple a Day January 16, 2013, 07:37 PM What in the world is that thing?
Flash Gordon's B.A.R.
Gottahaveone January 16, 2013, 07:43 PM And here I thought I was gonna see this thing again. In comparison, I'd take yours......
Killian January 16, 2013, 08:29 PM Surface appearance does not make a gun ugly. Price does. A formerly beautiful $800 AR15 can become real ugly when it has a $4000 price tag on it.
JohnnyK January 16, 2013, 08:38 PM I want one... it'll go great with my couch... :)
USAF_Vet January 16, 2013, 08:41 PM I want one... it'll go great with my couch... :)
I think it might be time to get a new couch.
PRD1 January 16, 2013, 08:44 PM what someone (a Canuck, I hope) did to a Ross military rifle. Probably one of Red Green's fellow lodge members, under the influence of 'strange brew'.
'I am a man, but I can change, if I have to, I guess.'
Let's all pray it is really unique - the world couldn't stand any more of them.

HammerheadSSN663 January 16, 2013, 08:45 PM Looks like the 1790s and 1970s had a collision.
skeeziks January 16, 2013, 08:49 PM The trigger guard is definitely the worst thing about it.
Prophet January 16, 2013, 08:55 PM It would appear that we have finally found the elusive firearm we are willing to compromise to the antis.
Funny thing is, I just looked at one of these rifles (non-bastardized of course) in my LGS just today.
Texan Scott January 16, 2013, 09:15 PM LOL @ Prophet!
"Um... hi? Diane? Yeah, here .... you can have this one. We decided."
herkyguy January 16, 2013, 09:16 PM Do you have to have long hair and leather pants to own it? Or headbang at the range to shoot it?
TennJed January 16, 2013, 09:28 PM There is a Ted Nugent joke in here somewhere
230RN January 17, 2013, 07:00 AM No wonder the "gunsmith" gussied it up like that. No other use for it 'cept to give it to Diane, as someone said (LOL):

so that's where this design comes from...
It's an ESP (sort of) what do you expect! ;)
FIVETWOSEVEN January 17, 2013, 08:49 AM Looks like something out of Khyber Pass.
HoosierQ January 17, 2013, 09:34 AM Looks like the 1790s and 1970s had a collision.
That's what I'm sayin'....
Eleanor416Rigby January 17, 2013, 09:42 AM If that thing shoots straight and reliably, then it is beautiful to me.
For me, Firearms are tools designed to do a job. I don't understand the obsession with pretty guns. They are not for looking at. Glossy magazine articles about pretty guns lead a bunch of folks into paying big money for big name firearms that do not function better than the ugly ones. (And if they do function better, it's not because they are pretty.)
I don't do glass-front gun cases or pretty guns. (Unless the pretty one happens to shoot as well as an ugly old mauser 98 or maybe an ugly new Savage 10 series, without costing more.)
jakk280rem January 17, 2013, 09:42 AM I agree with pretty much everything that has been said. I kinda like it, but I also kinda want to drag it behind my truck. I sorta feel that maybe I'd kinda like to pick it up and take a closer look, up to and including the price tag. But also, it makes my eyes twitch. I can't seem to stop looking at it.
BHP FAN January 17, 2013, 10:29 AM interestingly the trigger guard seems to be apart of a Bingham Squires .22 AR.
MachIVshooter January 17, 2013, 11:08 AM Flash Gordon's B.A.R.
He's the first character I thought of when I saw it. lol.
gym January 17, 2013, 11:12 AM Very practical tactical, nice buffer pad, and reflective stock for signaling planes with.
mxl January 17, 2013, 11:12 AM It still can't beat that abomination called a "Rhino" [revolver]. :barf:
ApacheCoTodd January 17, 2013, 11:28 AM One way to look at it is: you won't be taking that to the range and have the "been there done that" troll come up tellin' you all about how he had one of those...
TRX January 17, 2013, 01:57 PM Looks vaguely steampunkish to me.
The bolt handle looks... odd. A .22 with a BAR mag stuck to the bottom?
Soapy5 January 17, 2013, 02:12 PM This one is better:

KevininPa January 17, 2013, 02:16 PM concur
Also concur. Though that trigger guard could stand to have some more work done.
crazyjennyblack January 17, 2013, 02:21 PM I would like the gun if the triggerguard was "normal" and it didn't have that thing for a buttplate. Also, it would have been nice if they could have not put in the studs and blued the new metal to match.
In other words - just a normal springfield with the capability to use a BAR mag
goldie January 17, 2013, 02:24 PM Is that a combination ak/entrenching shovel ? :D
HoosierQ January 17, 2013, 02:58 PM I'd take it...and fix it. The mag is kind of neat. I wonder if that works?
Gottahaveone January 17, 2013, 03:00 PM Is that a combination ak/entrenching shovel ?
Funny thing is, that danged thing will probably still run. They might not be refined, but you gotta respect the Soviet weapon systems......
Wilbert January 17, 2013, 04:16 PM These rifles were notorious for needing repairs often due to the fact that after firing a magazine, the shooter had to take the rifle by the muzzle, and with a screaming leap, smash it on the ground and proceed to bodysurf into the crowd of onlookers
jmace57 January 17, 2013, 09:52 PM PRD wins the kewpie doll. A Ross rifle. Since everyone loved it so much, I am posting more pictures from the auction site. Be quick - the bidding is up to $5.50.

TurtlePhish January 17, 2013, 10:07 PM The wood to metal fit is.... creative.
The close-ups of the very poor wood finishing job, badly marred barrel, and rusty action are mildly nauseating.
JVaughn January 17, 2013, 10:30 PM At least it's probably chambered in the ever popular .303
PRD1 January 17, 2013, 10:44 PM but, from the photo of the left side of the rifle, it appears that the stock must have been originally intended for a Krag.
All it really lacks for the Red Green touch is .... duct tape.
'Quando omni flunkus moritati' - I just ordered a supply of Possum Lodge collar badges and brassards.
PRD1 - mhb - Mike
VA27 January 18, 2013, 01:02 AM I like it. It's the perfect home defense rifle...one look at it would send even the most hardened, heartless serial killer on the planet down the street at a dead run, screaming like a cat being fed into a wood chipper.
Dr_B January 18, 2013, 02:10 AM Looks like Flash Gordon lost his rifle.
FIVETWOSEVEN January 18, 2013, 03:07 AM Funny thing is, that danged thing will probably still run. They might not be refined, but you gotta respect the Soviet weapon systems......
That rifle does in fact work. The receiver is made from a shovel.
VVelox January 18, 2013, 09:19 AM And here I thought I was gonna see this thing again. In comparison, I'd take yours......
Gottahaveone, I've never seen any thing like that before. Can you provide more info?
swag January 18, 2013, 09:20 AM I'd take it hunting with my mates, an go on about my business for as long as i could with a straight face....what?????
anchorman January 18, 2013, 09:29 AM Is that a combination ak/entrenching shovel ? :D
I think it is an ak that a guy made from a shovel. I saw a write up of this done by the builder/owner a while back. Took the shovel and beat it flat, folded it up to build the receiver, used the handle as the stock. May be a different gun patterned off of that one. It was an amusing write up.
VVelox January 18, 2013, 09:39 AM Okay. I figured out what it is.

There is something about the bulky weird lines that just make me smile even though I have no clue what I would use the extra rails for.
hwmoore February 10, 2013, 12:52 AM what someone (a Canuck, I hope) did to a Ross military rifle. Probably one of Red Green's fellow lodge members, under the influence of 'strange brew'.
'I am a man, but I can change, if I have to, I guess.' NO DUCT TAPE defenatly not red green it would have been duck tape together
ApacheCoTodd February 10, 2013, 11:06 AM In the absence of duct tape there would at least have to be bailing wire or re-purposed fence wire as an indicator of the "Red Green" influence. Or - if the stock were made from a canoe paddle.
"If women don't find you handsome, they should at least find you handy."
jamesbeat February 10, 2013, 11:53 AM One of us should buy that thing and lovingly restore it to its former glory.
Wouldn't that be satisfying?
Akita1 February 10, 2013, 12:08 PM Better take off and nuke it from orbit. It's the only way to be sure.
+1 USAF - best one of the series.
sonick808 February 10, 2013, 12:38 PM I love it! Simpy because it's such a departure from the norm; I think it's awesome :)

That's no way to talk about Feinstein. It's not THR.
jmace57 February 11, 2013, 05:50 PM I was amazed - this "thing" sold for $130 in the auction.
19-3Ben February 11, 2013, 06:01 PM Like accidentally walking in on grandma in the bathroom, there are some things that just can't be unseen. This rifle falls into the category. Yeesh!
Grassman February 11, 2013, 06:08 PM I was amazed - this "thing" sold for $130 in the auction.
I would have paid that just for the comedy factor. Just imagine the look on all your buddies faces when you pull that out at the range.
Sistema1927 February 11, 2013, 06:23 PM Nothing that a new stock, barrel, and receiver can't fix.
rondog February 11, 2013, 06:30 PM Hey, that's probably Rich Wyatt's first $20k custom build!
Bigdog57 February 11, 2013, 06:55 PM All the metalwork makes it easy to 'accidentally' lose over the side of your fishing boat........ it'll sink all the way to China.
I don't think my fingers would fit between the PG of the stock and that abomination of a trigger guard.
Hurryin' Hoosier February 11, 2013, 11:51 PM Does it say "Glock" anywhere on it? :uhoh:
7.62 Nato February 12, 2013, 12:34 AM Mad Max!

sonick808 February 12, 2013, 02:56 PM well i loved it! no such thing as an ugly gun
xs11jack February 13, 2013, 12:58 AM There is talk of duct tape, I don't think any selfrespecting roll of quality duct tape would stick to it, and rightly so.

I don't know how to post this but you gotta look , it's like a train wreck
Ryanxia February 13, 2013, 04:08 PM I'd still shoot it.
In fact I'd put it on 'display' at my LGS by putting it up on consignment so all could see! :D
