Anyone else keep loading manual copies in their reading bathroom?

I have every loading manual printed since the 1960s in my hand-loading shop.
My desk / office area in my house has powder burn rate charts and bullet BC charts tacked to the walls, right next to the calendars I use for scheduling flying clients.

The other day my wife gave me a hard time about the spare (copies) loading manuals in the upstairs bathroom. It is at the top of the stairs, nice and warm, has great light for reading and nobody will follow me in there... So to me is was the perfect place to have another 6 or 8 loading manuals. For research and reflection time......
She is convinced that I am odd....( She is European) I have assured her that it is perfectly normal...
Am I paddling I canoe alone...??

ONLY until I've memorized it, then another takes its place. :)

January 17, 2013, 03:10 PM
No, but I have been known to take a copy with me.

As for your wife thinking it is strange?

Offer to replace the reloading manuals with Penthouse magazines and see how she likes that!

January 17, 2013, 03:26 PM
Tell her they are valuable. According to the latest Handloader magazine, the Lyman 45th edition is worth up to $350.

January 17, 2013, 03:26 PM
I don't keep loading manuals in the bathroom but I have been known to bring one with me at times. lol

I do not think it's strange at all but then again, here you are preaching to the choir!

Scan them and put them on an iPad, then keep the iPad in the bathroom.

I sometimes post to THR while on the can. In fact, I did it today.

January 17, 2013, 05:18 PM
Nope float I do the same thing :D nothing odd about it.

January 17, 2013, 05:26 PM

Does my iPhone count as one? I have most manuals saved as PDFs and I'm usually looking at them while in the bathroom.

For those with iPhones/iPads. There is an app called turboscan. I still cant believe how well it works. Uses your device's camera but the results are like a flatbed scanner. I'm not affiliated with the makers of the app. Just a happy customer that uses it almost daily.

Love my quiet time reading! I keep the Lee Manual in one, the Lyman Cast Bullet in another, and the Speer Manual gets thrown back and forth.

January 17, 2013, 07:21 PM
Yep. I have a small bookcase in the john and there are 5 or 6 reloading manuals in it along with lots of hunting books.

January 17, 2013, 08:28 PM
Not in the bathroom but they make a healthy rotation across the night stand.

I don't keep a library in the bathroom, but I do read a lot of gun & loading magazines there.

Just tell your wife you're being anal-retentive about it.

No, but Handloader magazine is there. :D

How did you get into my bathroom without me knowing it.:what::D I have lots of gun porn in my two bathrooms for that time that I can concentrate on details.

I just surveyed the house and while I didn't find any reloading manuals in either bathroom, I did find the following:

Kitchen - 1
Living room - 1
Master BR - 3
TV room - 2
Computer room - 1
Reloading cave - 0

Seems like the little buggers are afraid of the one place where they would be of the most use!:)

I don't keep reloading manuals in my bathroom, the slick pages just don't do the job for me. To be fair, I don't keep toilet paper in my reloading room.

January 17, 2013, 10:47 PM
I primed a bunch of .40W&W in there one day when I was prepping for a medical procedure: about 400 as I recall.

January 17, 2013, 11:21 PM
I do not keep a library in the bathroom, but do take some material with me on occasions. Reloading manuals are fair game from time to time.

January 18, 2013, 12:27 AM
always at least one good loading book in that part of the house... seems to help build the needed pressure....

January 18, 2013, 12:35 AM
No, most manuals are hardcover books and good sized. I read the blue press, American rifleman and other mags there, of course.

January 18, 2013, 12:49 AM
I keep my manuals, annual Hodgdon mag, guns and ammo, hand loader and motor trend in the bathroom!

Just don't blow a Hemi! :D

My GF doesn't think it's strange, she reads books. We have books and magazines all over the BR.

January 18, 2013, 01:30 AM
i used to, for years. Now i just bring the ipad

January 18, 2013, 01:50 AM
Its usually the midway catalogs I get each month... the manual makes its way between the nightstand and the loading bench.

January 18, 2013, 08:45 AM
I usually flip through Handloader while dropping a charge. Lyman 49th or Hornady 7th makes their way in there every now and then.

Nothing like a good read while annealing the toilet seat and priming the commode.

January 18, 2013, 10:36 AM
In my bathroom right now I have a Speer reloading manual, MIDSOUTH,Midway & Brownnells catalogs & 2-issusues of American Rifleman.

Anyone else keep loading manual copies in their reading bathroom?

LOL, nope!

January 19, 2013, 09:21 AM
I have my own bookcase behind the throne, keep my older reloading manuals there going back three decades. It's a great research facility.

January 19, 2013, 04:57 PM
I do. I have a complete bookshelf with an easy chair in there. Yeah, old, old house, big bathroom made from a converted part of the attic.

January 19, 2013, 07:14 PM
If I do then I tend to stay on the toilet till my legs go numb and fall down when I try to stand. Now I leave them next to my recliner to encourage myself to a more comfortable place to read.

January 20, 2013, 12:00 AM
I have to agree huey, I go to sit and stink, not to sit and think!

January 20, 2013, 03:23 PM
I prefer "Cartridges of the World" - love to read about funky old cartridges I've never heard of.

February 1, 2013, 07:53 PM
I too have a complete gun library in the can, but know too well long articles can result in blown hemis, roids that is haha. Actually no self respecting reloader would have a can without proper literary materials to improve his mind!

What medical procedure did you have requiring primed 40 SW cases?

Im with RC.

February 2, 2013, 09:11 AM
Let me clarify. Im not literally with RC in the john. Its just that I also do what he does.

February 2, 2013, 09:26 AM
I keep one of the old versions of the Speer book upstairs is the living portion of the house, and it sometimes finds its way into the bathroom. All the more recent ones are in the basement where my reloading bench is.

February 2, 2013, 09:41 AM
I have a number of manuals and books in PDF on my smart phone. It goes wherever I do!

February 2, 2013, 09:58 AM
I occasionally bring Lyman's 49th or a binder filled with printouts from Hodgdon's online data in with me. Currently both are on the headboard of my bed.

February 2, 2013, 06:28 PM
And thought I was the only one that did that.

February 3, 2013, 08:01 AM
I keep the latest issues of Handloader, or what ever else comes in the mail in there.

I only have one thing on my mind in the bath-room and it isn`t reading a manual. :)

February 3, 2013, 12:06 PM
The Rifleman, Photography Magazine, Seed Catalogs AND the old stand -by Farmers Almanac.

February 3, 2013, 12:19 PM
I tend to rotate manuals in the Throne Room, depending on what rifle I'm currently working up loads for. The "book bag" right now has Lyman #46, 3 copies of Rifleman, and the Brownell's and Midway master catalogs....

February 3, 2013, 12:19 PM
Mathematically speaking the amount of magazines in ones bathroom is inversely proportionate to daily fiber intake ....

February 4, 2013, 01:51 PM
I don't keep any manuals in there, but they do occasionally make the trek with me. Several months worth of American Rifleman and reloading catalogs/flyers in there, though.
