Tough question. Usually any victim of a murder is portrayed as an angel, even if they have a pretty sketchy past. And to be honest, a lot of kids just get sucked into the gangs way too young and get themselves killed, which is tragic. I don't think murder is okay "just cuz it was some gangbangers" but I will investigate a bit. I haven't been able to find anything that explicitly states the % of all murder victims had criminal/violent history.

This link

http://www.nationalgangcenter.gov/Survey-Analysis/Measuring-the-Extent-of-Gang-Problems

has total gang homicides at about 2,000 per year, and we can probably assume that it is gang-on-gang violence, with guns. Out of about 8,000 or so non-justifiable gun homicides, that would be like 25%.

They also have this snippet:

In a typical year in the so-called “gang capitals” of Chicago and Los Angeles, around half of all homicides are gang-related; these two cities alone accounted for one in five gang homicides recorded in the NYGS from 2006 to 2010.

Bold mine. Again, not sure how many of the victims are gang members versus the offenders, but I think it is safe to say, a majority.

Lists 150 gangland killings and 523 juvenile gang killings. Again, not sure if the victims are gang members, but it shows that gangs are doing a fair amount of the killing themselves.

I disagree respectfully, I think that it's a good day when a couple of gangbangers off each other, the world is a much better place when it happens.

Wishing that more gangbangers and criminals would kill each other does not really fall in line with the mission of THR.

holdencm9 provided the best two links to answer the question in the op.
