"First of all, and let me be as plain-spoken as possible as to two issues: First, gun ownership is not a political issue; it is a constitutional right. Second, what happened in Newtown isnít a political issue, itís a tragedy. People who confuse these principles have no business telling me how to do my job. I swore an oath to uphold the Constitution, enforce the law, and protect my community, and thatís what Iíll do. Law abiding citizens have every right to own legal firearms, and I am confident that our Congress would not be so foolish as to let anyone strip us of our Second Amendment rights.

Iíve looked at the 23 Executive Actions signed by the President today, and I donít see that they accomplish anything. Itís just political posturing, and Iím not going to fight hysteria with hysteria. Iíve worked for years with dedicated ATF agents, and other local law enforcement officers, to keep illegal guns Ė like sawed off shotguns Ė off our streets and enforce laws prohibiting felons from owning or possessing firearms.

The President says he wants to provide incentives for schools to hire school resource officers. Letís do it. Iíll be first in line, and stand ready to devote as many officers as I can to schools just as soon as he provides that funding. I am a strong advocate of having certified police officers serve as SROís in our schools. He wants to require law enforcement to trace guns recovered in criminal investigations. We already do. He wants to maximize enforcement efforts to prevent gun violence and prosecute gun crime. Each and every day, law enforcement officers in our communities put their lives on the line to prevent gun violence and uphold the constitution. Those men and women donít have time for hollow political posturing. When the White House is ready for meaningful dialogue, perhaps we can then talk about the real issues: for example, a culture of violence and disrespect of law enforcement, mental health issues, and the flow of illegal drugs into our Country.

God bless the United States of America."

Woooo! Just got my vote for re-election!

Good man.

I know none of this will actually get through to Obama, or that he would even acknowledge it, but I hope, and even believe a little bit, that Sheriff's and state-level representatives speaking out in support of the 2A will have some impact with those in Washington. I don't think it will change the beliefs of anyone in DC, whether pro or anti, but at least make them take note that their reelection may not come easy if they support new legislation.

I've known the sheriff since he was a deputy working in the jail and his hair was still dark (instead of grey). He won't support the gun-grabbers.

I've met some police, including SWAT team captain (or something of the like) in Canyon County and spent some time hanging out with him. Friendly and uber-pro gun guy. This is one of those cops I would trust in the darkest of times. They are good folk over there. I use to live right near the Canyon county line. If things go South here in Washington, I may reconsider moving to Canyon County. Lots of places to shoot, pro-gun law enforcement and cheap living. Although I do think the state of Washington will come out on top.

I don't know if its neighbor Ada county has the same sentiment though. Let's just say, I had a bit of mixed feelings of the Boise area. It seem to go against the feeling of freedom you are suppose to have being in Idaho.

Another comment:
Ada county is the largest muscle of the state and a letter like this from him, along with Canyon County, would certainly get Mr. Hussein Obama's attention, because it would more or less indicate the entire state of Idaho is not on his side.. It's nice when an entire state is letting the so-called prez know they are not with him in his unconstitutional pursuits.

Canyon County is the second most populated state in Idaho after Ada County. We are considered to be the servants quarters for Ada County. It's that way the world over. New Jersey is considered to be New York City's "sewer" and that's how many in Ada County/Boise City look at Canyon County.

Though Ada County is actually pretty conservative it's more left wing than Canyon County. Canyon is pretty Republican and very pro 2nd Amendment. Just some differences in our areas for those who care.

If I were President he would be my nominee for BATFE Director. He has quite abit of common sense which seems to be absent in Washington.
