How hard is it to change the caliber of a late 90's Savage 7 mag to 30-06 or 270? Does it just involve changing the barrel and the bolt head? I have found factory blued barrels for 85 bucks. That doesn't seem like a bad deal.
I thought it might be nice to be set up especially for 30-06 because it is cheaper and you can get surplus ammo.

barrel, bolthead and you may have to make "adjustments" or replace magazine parts.

You'll have to change a lot more than the barrel. It could be done, but I think you'd be better off selling or trading rather than trying to convert the rifle you have.

TNbilly is right, on a savage you'll have to swap the barrel and bolt head (both easy), some of the WSMs had a larger barrel shank, but that shouldn't be an issue with the conversion you're proposing. You might also need to adjust your magazine or rails, but I doubt it.
