New idea from the antis -- ban stripper clips

The following letter, from one Nellie Clem, appeared in the Washington Post's Letters to the Editor today:

... A much more effective approach would be to combine a limit on magazine capacity -- say, to five rounds -- with the requirement that the magazine must be fixed, not detachable, and with no insertable clips. Such a magazine can be reloaded only by a manual, time-consuming, one-shell-at-a-time process. A deranged person would have a much harder time killing many people with such a gun than with one with a detachable magazine.

She failed to mention that such a ban would outlaw just about every semiautomatic pistol, as well as rifles such as the Garand, the Springfield, the Mauser, etc. You'd have to go all the way back to the Krag to find a rifle that couldn't be loaded with stripper clips.

There's no limit to these people's imagination.

Revolvers can be reloaded more than one bullet at a time. So we'd have to go to the old-school fixed-cylinder revolvers. She is nuts.

ETA: A deranged person would have a MUCH harder time killing people if those people were shooting back. Just sayin'...

She ignores New York reloads, the ability of BGs to follow the law in the first place, and the amount of weapons that would be in the black market due to this law.

That's right -- modern revolvers can use half-moon clips or speedloaders. You'd have to go with the old Single Action with a loading gate. But even with that, the cylinder can hold 6 rounds, which exceeds her magazine capacity of 5.

I guess the BG's would have to carry multiple revolvers, in the style of Quantrill's Raiders.

So she'd also outlaw the '58 Remington New Army?

Goon, if it has Army in the name, I'm pretty sure anti's want it banned.

sounds to me as though it would cost more lives that it would save. She's a mental midget!

Now the bad guys will come loaded with numerous handguns like the calvary in the Civil War. Empty one gun then draw another.

Why don't they want to stop the bad guys before they do harm? It is kind of like closing the barn door after the cows have left.

More like requiring everyone to close and weld shut the barn door after one farmer has a cow escape.

Yeah.
Needless to say, the most effective solution is for three CCW holders to pull their Glocks and 1911's and riddle said bad guy with holes before he can reload.
But no... we can't have people defending themselves. How ghastly.

Stricter seatbelt laws will save more lives than an AWB or hi cap mag law.

........nobody brought up. This is an anti who's a little more schooled than " that flip up shoulder thingy ". They're beginning to educate themselves on manual of arms on some weapons and know what to push their local anti politico to go for. The not so bright ones are going for the usual stuff. Here is someone who knows to go for the more low profile stuff. :scrutiny:

I want one of those Roy Rogers kind of SA that will fire 30 times without reloading and only shoot the gun out of the bad guy's hand.

Sounds like someone's understanding of the Constitution is a bit flawed.

Maybe someone should suggest an equally reasonable counter-argument -- that any communication she or her time-warp ilk wish to pursue, should have their 1st Amendment rights similarly restricted to chronologically contemporary technologies.

Typewriters -- and none of those new fangled electric ones which can spit out hundreds of words a minute. Manual only. Need to get a broader audience for your message? Have those guys on American Pickers try to find you a vintage mimeograph machine.

Want to be a Luddite? Be a Luddite. Otherwise, execute a good ninety degree turn and merge back into your lane.

ETA: Much more on topic, the truth of the matter is -- given the lack of effective resistance on the ground in Newtown -- the same bad guy in the same situation could easily have wracked up the same body count armed with a pair of five shot revolvers and a pump shotgun plugged for duck hunting. A shot bag full of buckshot and a little practice at shoot-one-load-one drills and I bet there's no real difference in outcome.

Of course morons of this woman's caliber will take that to mean that shotguns should also be restricted to single shot or something, because they just can't see the real problem. It's like they're trying to reduce car fatalities by increasing gas mileage.

So long as we are banning any firearms design post-1900, I say we ban free speech on any communications media that were invented post-1900 as well.

Then Nellie Clem would be limited on who could read her moronic diatribe.

true. As far as it goes I'd rather argue points with Nellie than McCarthy.
trouble with using a logical argument to ban things is it gets people thinking. Bans are much more effective when driven by emotion.

"I want one of those Roy Rogers kind of SA that will fire 30 times without reloading..."

Akchully, that can be done with an SAA, but it's awkward as hell, especially for a right-hander. You leave the loading gate open and jack out the empty as it come around and replace it with a loaded round and keep on truckin' that way.

PITA, though. I tried it. PITA.

'Druther have another gun, i.e, a New York Reload. (Didn't they used to call that a Chicago reload?)

230RN ... opt for a Schofield (but chambered in .45LC) ... you can reload very much faster ... or a Webley MkVI ... pretty much the same animal ... just a bit more homely!:D (got 'em both):D

I can't believe an anti knows the difference between clips and magazines, when I can't even get my pro-gun friends to remember the difference.

Substitute these words: "a homeowner would have a much harder time protecting his family from bad guys with such a slow reloading process rather than with a detachable magazine."
These proposals make me sad.
