Hey all! Looking at (eventually) mounting optics on my Saiga 7.62x39. Thinking about the 6x24 POSP scope from Atlantic Arms (https://www.atlanticfirearms.com/component/virtuemart/shipping-accessories/posp-6x24-rifle-scope-1000m-rangefinder-detail.html?Itemid=0), but I'm definitely open to other suggestions. I am, however, very definitely on a budget. I don't want to spend over 300 dollars if I don't have to. Anyone have any tips, advice, or experience with the POSP or any other optics on a Saiga?

I have a Millett red dot sight on my with zero magnification. Lots of good red dots out there with and without magnification...take a look at opticsplanet.com to see what's available.

I've got an Ultimak front rail with a Bushnell TRS-25 red dot on mine. I really like the set up and it should cost you under $200 easily. If you want magnification you would probably want to go the route you already thinking.

I also have the Ultimak rail on mine with a Primary Arms micro dot.
It will be on the upper end of your budget, with shipping and/or tax maybe over. I can hit a 6"x6" steel plate off hand @ 200yds with mine and hit 10 of 10 at that distance.

Have a 4x PSO scope on mine and I am very happy with it. Firefield is currently importing them for ~$150. My experience is the glass is fairly good quality, on par with entry level big name rifle scopes. In dawn and dusk you will notice the decreased light gathering ability of the 24mm objective, but for 90% of daytime use it works just fine.

I've got an ancient weaver 2.5x20 mounted on a removable receiver side mount. I like it, and the scope cost me $5 at a garage sale.

I have a Konus 1.5x5x32 on another rifle I own and it would be on the Saiga if it didn't already have a good home. I showed the scope to a buddy of mine and he went right out and bought one. @ 1.5 power with the diamond "Aim-Pro" reticle, target acquisition is very fast. It's a good scope at minimal price, with enough magnification to get the job done. Model # 3249

See, I live in an area which is mostly lightly populated farmland, so I doubt highly that I'll be doing tons of "CQB" stuff with this gun which would require a red dot. Still very much open to that possibility, but I'm personally envisioning more of a coyote/general purpose/survival gun.

If you havent tried a good red dot, dont sell it short until you do. Its a good 24 hour sight that will easily get you out to 200 yards and beyond, and if your shooting involves any kind of reactive shooting, it gets even better.

Another alternative is to put your dot and scope on lever mounts, and you can have the best of both worlds. I have an AR set up this way, and while it normally has a scope mounted, with two flips of a lever, it can have a pre zeroed Aimpoint in its place.
