I am looking to reload some 44 magnums. I have been shooting 240 gr at about 1350 fps. Was looking at loading some heavier rounds around 1000 fps or so. Can anyone give any info comparing recoil of this type of load to what I have been shooting? To be worth while, I will want to order a large quantity of bullets and want to get an idea of what to expect before ordering something that I will not like.

Also any recommendations for bullet would be appreciated as well.

(I am shooting a S&W 629 with a 6.5" barrel.)

Not sure that this is going to help. I have a ruger carbine, two actually. While working up loads, I went to a 300 grain round. It was slow and mean. You could hear it wack the target and it wasn't a great pattern. I have stuck with 225 and 240 grains for that reason.

I would order a small quantity before a large one.

You should expect good results from heavier bullets from the longer barrel.

If I was going to go heavier bullets, it would probably be 300 XTP's from hornady.

The recoil will be stronger.

If you shoot 44 regularly, this shouldn't be an issue- but it will be stout. Heavy bullets at good velocity are not for the limp of wrist.

Loads can and do give different results out of different gun of the same type. Relying on someone else's accuracy results may turn into money down the drain for you. With that said, if I had any firsthand information with the heavier loads I would not hesitate to share it.

What do you mean by heavier? I shoot a 300 grain bullet at 1200 fps and there is a little bit more recoil than the 240 at 1350. Downloaded to 1000 fps it should be relatively tame. And even a 340 at 1000 fps should have less recoil than that 240.

Out of my pistol I don't want anything more than the 240. Most of the time I just shoot the 185xtp. Mines a 6-1/2".

I laded some speer 270 grain a few years back with a max load of 231 I think...
They shot excellent and function was perfect in my 629 and my Marlin.

I like the 275 gr WFN and load it down to 1050 fps with 10.5 gr of HS-6. A very easy to shoot combo that worked on this critter a couple of years ago.

This load below using 21 grs of 4227 runs right at 1200 fps and is pleasant to shoot. I much prefer it over full-tilt 240's. I do not load any of my larger bores over 1200 fps and typically somewhat less.

I like a 270 grain slug over some 296. I shoot a air weight 44 mag with this and the recoil is tons more tolerable than a factory 240 grain load. I could probably shoot a whole box of the 270 at 1,200 fps vrs the factory 240 grain bullets.

Thanks for the information. 300 grain is what I was thinking about. I am relatively new to 44 mag and wanted to have an idea what I could expect.
