Whoops. Don't drop your powder cans!

I had some flooding last weekend. While I was shuffling stuff around to get what I could off the floor, I dropped two cans of powder. They were the Hodgdon/Win/IMR style 1 lb cans. They fell from a height of just under 6 feet. I didn't think much of it. But when I finally looked down, there was H335 and HP38 all over the floor. This sure made me mad, esp since the H335 can was recently topped off to 1 3/4 lb.

Who knew these cans wouldn't stand up to such a fall? FWIW, there's a dent in the lids of each bottle. So maybe they landed just right for the lids to pop off.

Knowing that these powders are out of stock at all my usual sources, I recovered what I could. But there was a lot of it mixed together! I swept it up, bagged it, and labeled it "Stumpy's Blend." Very roughly, I'm gussing it's 83% H335, 16% HP38, and 1% lint and cat hair.

Unfortunately, I don't have a lawn to fertilize. And curiosity got the better of me. So I just may have played the lottery this past weekend. Details to follow if I don't get flamed too badly.:)

You know what you need to do. Sucks, but I've been there too.

Shoulda known I'd get this response. Well, details not to follow, then. Other than to say that cast rifle bullets are very forgiving, I still have all my fingers, and I killed a lot of beer bottles yesterday. :)

I figured it I have shot a particular cast rifle bullet with anywhere from 3 - 16 gr of Unique, successfully, I could figure out a load for Stumpy's Blend. But of course, this is the High Road.

So the official story is I fertilized my lawn with it!

should be a pretty fire show, when you light it off.

Were the bottles killed with "Stumpys blend"? Officially? ;)

Why do they call you Stumpy?

Why do they call you Stumpy?

From using the last batch of accidentally mixed powder maybe? :)

I know it sucks. I had to toss nearly an entire pound of H380 before because I knocked an open container off my bench.

I've been lucky so far and not broken open any bottles when I dropped them. Of course since I just said that........

I dump junk powder from various sources into a small plastic canister in the shop. Every once in a while the kids and I take it out back, dig a small hole, dump it in, and create a thin powder trail to act as a fuse. There's never a lack of volunteers to light the trail, and then POOF. The flash and smoke is a real crowd pleaser.

For good clean family fun, it's the best thing since Lawn Darts.

Haha... I can just imagine what a can of H380 does when it spills on a hardwood or tiled floor.

On the bright side, w/e you could sweep up, I'd think you could just tilt the dust pan into a can and watch the H380 roll right in, leaving behind any lint or other powders. :D

Give a stranger incentive to want me dead? No thanks.

A USAF pilot once told me:"There are old pilots. There are bold pilots. There are no old and bold pilots." And he was a Wild Weasel.:what:

Seriously, just pitch it. You have no way of knowing what the pressure is. There is no way of keeping a consistent mix.

The scariest mystery is a mystery powder.
