just started to reload for my mini -14 .223 iknow they say it is best to use magnum primers because they are thicker , but you can only get what you can get right now ,i got some CCI 400 small rifle primers and remington 6 1/2 small rifle primers, some say the cups are to thin ,causing slamfire from the floating firing pin of the mini -14. will use h-322 for powder , any body used these two primers and have slam fires or other problems ?

After Remington developed and introduce the 222 Remington (the triple deuce), folks were experiencing pierced primers using the Remington 6-1/2. Remington came out with the Remington 7-1/2.

I would expect you have similar problems with 223 Remington.

I have used standard CCI small rifle primers in my ARs without issue.

I'm thinking the CCI primers will work but do not use the Rem 6 1/2 primers in anything but a 22 Hornet case or handgun loads.

What he said.

CCI standard #400 are fine.

Remington 6 1/2 are not fine.
Don't use them in .223 per the Remington warning on the box.

Warning:•Remington does not recommend this primer for use in the 17 Remington, 222 Remington, 223 Remington, 204 Ruger, 17 Remington Fireball.

My mini leaves no indentation on a CCI 400 primer no matter how many times I cycle it. They are good to go.

And well it shouldn't.

If a Mini-14 is working right, the firing pin simply cannot touch the primer until the bolt turns and locks.

Look at the L-bend on the firing pin and the slot in the receiver it must fit through as the bolt locks.

I`ve used CCI small rifle primers in reloads for my mini 14 without ever having a problem in years of reloading for it. Could it be a bad batch??

I only wish I didn't have 400 Rem 6 1/2 primers with no 22 Hornet to load for. I might just have to buy another rifle. I know I can use them in .357 Magnum ammo but I have plenty of small pistol primers so that's not even necessary. I do wish they were Rem 7 1/2 primers like the other 400 in the box. (800 in the box of 1000 left and half are 6.5 and the other half are 7.5 primers, I don't remember why)

I've put hundreds of my reloaded .223 Remington cartridges loaded with CCI 400 primers through my Mini-14 with no issues at all. They work great!
