CZ 527 Carbine Scope Mount Question

OK, I have a CZ 527 Carbine in .223 Rem on order, should have it by the end of the week. I am aware of the clearance issues with the bolt handle and ocular bell of a scope mounted on this rifle.

My question is: Can the owners of this rifle post their set-up?

I have ordered a cheap Nikon Prostaff 2-7x32 and some Warne medium rings from SWFA. I spoke with Dillon at SWFA and he believes that this set-up will work becuase, in his words, the scope is "slender".

I have no problem getting a contoured bolt (calhoon or Reloading Tools) if necessary in order to avoid having to use the high mounts, but want to keep the scope as low as possible to avoid problems with cheek weld.

So, any advice or wisdom that you can provide is appreciated.

I guess I would try it out as it comes, and if necessary, have your bolt handle recontoured. Heck it may be just fine!

Your setup should work fine.

Yeah, I figured I would have to just try it out and see. Just curious what other members have used.

Thanks guys.

I am curious as well...I just picked up a 527 carbine in 7.62x39 and am waiting on my other 527 carbine in .223 from Buds. I have a Vortex Diamonback 2-7x35 in route and just need to order the rings. I was planning on medium cz or warne rings, but would love to see similar setups. I think for now the .223 will get scoped and the other will stay open sights...but that may change if I like the .223 setup.

My 204 wears the factory rings and a Nikon Buckmasters 6-18x40 and I have plenty of room between the scope and barrel and between the scope and handle.

I used medium rings on a 527 and a 550. Both worked fine. Sorry I can't post a pic now, but I think you're going to be okay with your setup.

Well, the "expert" at SWFA couldn't have been more wrong.

The scope I ordered is most definitely NOT slender enough and the bolt handle smacks squarely into the rear bell using the Warne medium rings.

I'm done messing with it. I like the scope and the rings are solid, so I ordered a stainless steel re-contoured bolt handle.

I'm still very happy with the rifle - it's a beauty, and I can still shoot this weekend with the irons, so I'm happy.

OK, more information for anyone that might stumble onto this thread with questions:

Mu buddy also has the 527 carbine. I explained to him that I had read that CZ-USA will recontour your bolt handle at no charge. He called and spoke to one of ther gunsmiths, who confirmed that they will indeed fix the problem at no charge other than the shipping cost to their facility. The smith told him to remove the bolt, pack it up, insure it for $200, and send it in. He said they would machine it, re-blue the handle and ship it back.

Of course I questioned why the entire bolt assembly had to be sent, and called CZ-USA myself. I spoke to the same smith and he told me that the reason they requested the bolt assembly was to save the owner the trouble of disassembling the bolt to remove the handle. I told I had no problem with the disassembly and asked if I could send just the handle. He said that would be OK.

At that exact moment it dawned on me that CZ-USA has replacement bolt handles in stock, so I decided to press my luck and asked if I could pay for a new handle for $18, have them machine it and ship it to me (saving me the trouble of having to send mine, and resulting in me having two bolt handles) and he replied that yes, they could do that. It would have cost me $18 plus shipping.

Bottom line is that, due to my impatience, I wasted my money buying an aftermarket bolt handle from Custom Reloading Tools, when CZ-USA would have offered a much cheaper solution.

Joe, will they recontour all bolt handles? If so, I might do that on my 204 and get the scope lower......

What is the link to the replacement handles?

I just re-contoured one of my two 527 carbine bolts. I will post pics of the one I did and the factory one I still have to do. It was fairly simply...tools needed were grinder, vise, file, and polishing stone on my dremel. Took a total of 1hr and am real happy looks factory except for the dang hole indent on the left side I think from the casting of the bolt, but once installed it isn't noticeable....pics to come...just need to blue it and wala

Nice pics. Did you just remove material or bend some material too?

I just put it in a vice and began to grind down from the slimmest point and tried to keep it the same diameter up to where it turns and actually connects to the bolt. Then polished with a dremel to smooth it out and remove the bluing...so that I can get a even dark bluing on the parts that will be exposed.

viking,

I assume they would but probably best to call. All of my questions were regarding the 527.
